Caption Battle: I Had Nothing More Christmasy...

"It's that time again, that time of year,
To see if I can get this posted before the podcast records..."

But first, last time's winners:

In third place, somehow sticking in my head really well on my first pass: mariomario!

Tama: "When Morpheus offers you the blue and the red pill, don't take both or some weird stuff is going to happen..."

In second place, with not nearly as obscure of a reference as people might think: BloodRedArab!

For some reason, the new Donnie Darko anime didn't take off quite as well as they were expecting...

And in the coveted first place with something that sounds really really dirty even though it mostly isn't... her triumphant return to the top... Calaya!

Wanna see my hole?

Well done, guys. Also, yes, I concede that that was indeed not Tama but just some random dude in a bunny costume. The more you know...

Well, being the last Caption Battle before Christmas, I was hoping I'd still have something stashed away for it... but nope, I got nothin'. So instead, we'll go with a shot that's somewhat tangently comparable to Christmas. It's possibly sacrilegious depending on how you feel about it, but it's from Love Hina, so who cares? Comes from ye olde archives, and features Keitaro Urashima in a world of trouble. Have fun now:

You know the drill: type up the funniest, wittiest, most original caption you can think of for the screencap above in the comments below. Also, if any of you would like some tips on writing a great caption, you can find those here.

And like always, theOtaku is open to all submissions and suggestions for weekly feature content. You have a screencap you want used, you can PM me and we can do somethin' about it. So good luck, and remember: you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, or else Santa Claus will climb into his Gundam and he will take. You. Out.

Caption Battle: Believe In Me Who Believes In You...

"It's that time again..."
"To figure out what Rambo 5 is going to be about?"
"To count how many movies involve pigs eating people?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place because we all love localization: Zero070810!

Usually Americans screw up Japanese shows.
This is the Japanese take on "Two and a Half Men"

In second place with a well-placed anime reference: mariomario!

Red: "...and this is what happens when you forget 21 kg of carbon when you do human transmutation."

And in the coveted first place with a brilliant reference older than history... or maybe just referencing Year One.. Erzengel Weiss!

And so father took son to a far far away land on a sacred mission. It was then when Isaac shouted, "Holy crap Dad, I got a better idea...sacrifice that!"

This was muuuuuuch better than last week. Thank you, guys. You've made an old man proud. But, since he called me out on my threat, I'll mention Flint's caption for Dug because it was just that good:

"I think now, looking back, we did not drag a house to a spot on a mountain via balloons. We dragged ourselves. And the house was us. The war is over for me now, but it will always be there with me, the rest of my days. As I am sure Carl will be, fighting with Muntz for what Kevin called 'possession of my soul'. There are times since, I've felt like a child, born of those two fathers. Be that as it may, those dogs who made it have an obligation to build again. To teach to other dogs what we know, and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and meaning to this life."

Moving on...

This week's screencap comes courtesy of red tigress and features the series Hayate no Gotoku. On the left is (I think) Tama, and on the right is Hayate. Have fun, now!

Caption Battle: Reaping What You Sow...

"It's that time again..."
"To learn the difference between an AC-130 and an A-10?"
"To keep Jack Sparrow's dad from falling over and knocking down Autobot Jazz?"
"No... time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In runner up, because it was more clever than others: cougarsama!

Another adorable chibi moment ruined.

And in first place as dictated by who answered first when I asked others about it... Grayfire!

It's Scrubbin' Bubbles of the FUTURE!

That's right. There are only two winners this week. Straight up to y'all... the vast, vast majority of last week's captions just straight up weren't that funny. At all. Yes, yes, we all hate Twilight; that doesn't make a completely unrelated topic any funnier - it's just lazy. You guys were being lazy. Even the ones who didn't use Twilight captions, I expect better from you all...

...for this disappointing week, consider yourselves all wearing the cone of shame:

Yes. Feel the shame.

Moving on...

This week's screencap comes courtesy of love966 and features the short series Gag Manga Biyori. I don't have names, and frankly, you really don't need names for this one. C'mon guys, you can do it... I have faith in you...

Caption Battle: The Evil Not Seen...

"It's that time again..."
"To find more retail shelf space for another Guitar Hero game?"
"To take it to Renaissance Italy, one hidden blade assassination at a time?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, being just geeky enough to be extra funny: KeenHavoc!

Wario: "Hey, did you see this awesome valley?!"
Sonic: "Man I hate bump mapping."

In second place with some nice deadpan observational humour: darknessslayer!

One of the better games Sonic has been in recently.

And in the coveted first place, with a kinda cheap but undeniably funny shot... Miss Anonymous!

Sonic could have lived without the knowledge that Wario was wearing a thong.

There were a few great lines in there this week, so good work. Moving on...

This week we'll go with an old screencap courtesy of Nehszriah featuring the series Cyborg 009 (the 2001 series, specifically). On the left is Cyborg 006 (alias Chang Changku), on the right is Dr. Isaac Gilmore. Go for it:

Caption Battle: Baby Got Back... WAH-HAHAHAHA!

"It's that time again..."
"To DVR South Park?"
"To begrudgingly play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 because it's an excellent game of quality even though we have ethical issues with Activision as a company?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place with a stealth-morbid one-liner: Hikari Mogami!

You can't be on the Naughty List if there is no Santa....

In second place, also with a stealth-morbid one-liner that also has a clever ring to it: Shineska!

Bringing together old men two pieces at a time.

And in the coveted first place, being not quite so stealth-morbid but tying all the pieces of the picture together harmonically... lazyweird1!

Question: How many bishounen does it take to fix an old guy?
Answer: Don't bother. The kawaii background animals could do better.

Ahhhh, I should have finished this sooner... ah well... moving on!

This week's screenshot actually comes not from anime, but from the Wii! Courtesy of the ever-helpful Hisaishi and featuring the game Super Smash Bros: Brawl, we have Wario on the left and Sonic on the right. Have fun:
