12 Days of Anime: Ef - A Tale of Memories

Episode 4 (Day 4)

Okay, I know I've already mentioned this once, but holy cow the art direction in this show. It's absolutely incredible. It adds so much and tells so much without it being obvious, and it's been so much fun noticing it and trying to see what it means.

And the development of the show is going well, too. Kyosuke's getting closer to meeting Kei, while Kei is falling further apart from Hirono, and Hirono is getting closer to Miyako, and it's starting to create a strain between Hirono and Kei. Though the thing with Kei's cooking made me chuckle inwardly - apparently Hirono's had the brunt of it more than he would have wanted to, to the point where he refuses to eat any girl's home cooking.

On the opening, this time I noticed more of the animation, and that there are three red strings that untie with the title card - supposedly being the red strings of fate between Hirono and Miyako, Kyosuke and Kei, and Renji and Chihiro. But then later in it there are three chains, which would signify a similar thing, but with a negative connotation. I wonder if that's foreshadowing, or just some random detail. Man, I really love this opening.

So it's still a really good show, and I still love it. I probably wouldn't mark it as one of my favorites (though it might have some potential to get there), but I'm definitely enjoying it.
