Into the Abyss

He left the town with his annoying little shadow tagging along, and telling him to slow down. His reply was always no or go away, of course. Yet she just stayed there, following him at a steady pace, and in an annoying tone at that.
"Would you just go away?" James turned and said.
Max thought for a moment and then replied,"and if I say no?"James turned around and continued to walk in the same fasion as he had previously been doing. Max gave a grin that said 'I win' all over it. But James had had just about enough of her annoyances for one lifetime. He knew that all she wanted was the sword, or more-or-less thought she just wanted the sword and was waiting for a chance to get her hands on it and then, he took off into a full sprint. He figured he could outrun her, after all she was just a girl, 'She'll never keep up' he was thinking.
Then he stopped abruptly as he almost ran into her. She had not only outran him, but she had also done so, so fast that he did not even see her pass him.
"Just come with me" she said, "I want you to meet a friend of mine." James felt as though he didn't even have a real choice in the discussion, being that there was no way to get rid of her(because he didn't hit girls),
And there was no way to outrun her.
"alright we'll go meet your 'friend'" James rolled his eyes when she turned her back.
