I love how this year, Chinese New Year and the 2010 Winter Olympics are happening at the same time. This is gonna be the most balls-tripping year yet.
Well, dragon dance at the Olympic Zone in Richmond is today. Also, I know the torch relay is also happening that day and there's gonna be a lot of road closures and stuff . . . hmm . . . . . should be fun. Maybe I'll see a show or two?
I still need to fix it so YouTube doesn't 4:3 my 16:9 videos . . . grr . . . also, I mumble so you may wanna turn it up a bit (and no, it won't scream at you). Other than that, there's a hilarious bit at the very end that site-goers might enjoy:
So the other night Beth, Des and I were in the chat alone. Again. Seems to be a trend, the three of us just tend to stay up a lot later than everyone else. Go fig'. So that night before I left, I was just thinking, "y'know what? We need a name for the three of us, since we're always here at night!"
That led to a quick lame suggestion of "The Nite Owls". Then last night I again gave a quick lame suggestion of "The Night Watchmen". A little too Watchmen, all of them, though.
So I start thinking of things to do with our initials . . . came up with (what I thought sounded good at the time) The "Somnolently Deprived Sentinels". We're mods/admins, so we watch over everyone, and we don't sleep. And we had our initials in it. So cool . . . but let's face it, it was still a little lame and not nearly catchy enough.
But at the same time I didn't wanna just call us "DSS" or "SDS" or "SSD" . . . which led to FFX-2 methods, which in turn led to:
"SoDeSu"
Say it out loud a little.
Yeah, that's right.
Even if they're not gonna fess up to it, I'm gonna start calling us that. SomeGuy-Desbreko-SunfallE! SoDeSu!!!
Hell yeah!
Ahem.
In other news, I'm totally visible outside my house on Google Map's street view. If you know where I live, feel free to check it out. Hilarity ensues. Anyway, Thanksgiving dinner today. Should be good . . .
So I've been wanting to, but it took a while to get around to it . . . kinda half-watched the third episode of Glee back when it was on (I was on the computer more than anything). Watched all of last week's episode kind of half understanding all the story lines, enjoyed it greatly. Last night I saw the newest one, thought "ohhh snap, they're bringin' in the plot thickener now . . ."
After watching that, I saw the commercial for Global TV mentioning how you can watch things streaming off their site . . .
. . . suddenly I started hitting my head for all these weeks - nay, months - of just griping about how American cable stations and their websites hate Canada . . .
So yeah, I watched the first episode of Glee finally. Holy shit, this show is amazing.
But let's be honest, I tend to be very passionate about anything I really care about, and it's hard to believe I'm really this into everything. What can I say, I love me some good television.
And I promise, I'll probably stop blogging about TV for a while once Uncharted 2 comes out on Tuesday. Still, I can't promise I won't gush and spazz over Uncharted afterwards . . .
So it's almost 3am, and I just applied for the supervisor position in the Photo Lab at work. Remains to be seen if I can nail that or not.
Also remains to be seen if getting said job will actually be beneficial for me in the long run, as I'm hearing a great deal on all sides of things:
Reasons For:
Full time hours/pay which will definitely be more than what I make now.
Regular work hours, fewer late into the night deals.
Several administrators/managers likely to have my back in applying, as I haven't truly pissed anyone off.
To be petty, hour long lunch breaks again, nicer shirt.
Will look really good on a resume.
Reasons Against:
As far as career salaries go, it's not THAT great (esp. considering after-tax).
Will no longer be protected by the union.
Possibility that the Photo Lab will be merged with the Photo Electronics department, position will disappear.
My current supervisor will miss me greatly (I'm her only any-timer right now).
My current department's full-timer taking leave in January, means I'm probably already locked for the staff full-time position come January (which will include full time hours, raise, and still be under union). Come January, anyway.
Seemed like an easy decision at the time. Then yesterday at work, as news of my interest in the position began to spread, I had more and more people (like the current lab specialist) giving me reasons to reconsider, and others (like my supervisor) strongly encouraging me to reconsider. Of course, my buddy Stephen the administrator (the guy who got married last year) is still totally supportive of the idea - he was actually the first person to tell me of the last supervisor's intentions to leave, and for me to keep an eye out for this. And hey, I was the guy's groomsman, I'd like to think I can trust him more than not.
Really, it all just comes down to talking with the people, seeing what kind of deal I can cut with them. If the money's worth it, I'll happily do it; I just need to hear it straight from their mouth first, is all.
So yeah, here's hoping the Photo Lab doesn't get folded into Photo Audio, in the meantime.
Ahhhh . . . you always have to love it when you have one great idea that just gets more and more complicated as time goes, hey?
