The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum: DC Heroes in Live-Action

With the release of Man of Steel nearing, I thought for today's posted topic on The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum, I host a topic where the theme is all things live-action films and T.V. series based on DC Comics' comic book hero and/or heroine characters. Yes, it's been 70 years since the first live-action filmed piece based on a DC Comics hero/heroine came out (that's of course the 1943 serial The Batman). Over the years, we have witnessed the releases of a number of live-action productions based on characters of the DC Universe mythos (like the 1966 Batman T.V. series, the 1974 Shazam T.V. series, the 1970s Wonder Woman T.V. series, Superman: The Movie, the 1990s The Flash, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, and recently Arrow) as well as live-action productions based on DC Comics heroes and heroines not part of the DC Universe mythos (like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, A History of Violence, The Spirit, Red, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen).

Anyway, in discuciing the theme of this forum post, you can talk about things like what DC based-live-action works are your favorites, what works you find best respect the appeal and essence of their comic book counterparts (example: do you find Watchmen was true to the comic book limites sereis it was based on?), what live-action works you find have lead actors who well looked and/or acted the DC heroe/heroine roles themselves (example: do you find Linda Carter well acted and looked the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman when she starred in the 1970s Wonder Woman T.V. series?), and what DC Comics-based live-actions would you recommend to non-comic book readers.

The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum: Injustice: Gods Among Us

Today's topic on The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum is all about Injustice: Gods Among Us, the new DC Universe-based video game from the makers of Mortal Combat. While I never played the video game myself, I find that the visual look of of the game itself, from what I have seen on Reviews of the Run and on the internet anyway, are very impressive, especially when the designs for the DC Universe characters look like the kind that could translate well into live-action filmed media without any drastic need for alteration. Anyway, here are some questions to think about as you take part in this forum post, that is if you played the game: What is the game play like? What do you find to be the strengths and weaknesses of this video game? Do you find this game worth playing, even in comparison/contrast to previous DC Universe video games? Would you say this video game could serve as good introduction to all things DC Universe for video game players who have never read a comic book before? Do you think this game has the potential of encouraging former comic book-reading gamers to return to reading comic book stories of the DC Universe's heroes and villains? Would you like to see this video game get a movie treatment in the future, regardless of format (live-action or animated)?

The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum: 75 Years of Superman

Today on The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum, I decided to post a forum topic post where you are invited to share your memories of the Superman category of the DC Universe franchise from over the years, although the 75th anniversary of Superman's official debut is not until 4/18/2013. Yes, DC Comics' premier super-hero has been around for such a long time and still remaining a fresh pop culture icon for western society, even still being one the most popular superheroes from all fiction.

Anyway, here are some questions you may want to consider: What are your favorite Superman adventures/battles? How you first got to know Superman? Any favorite characters from the Superan comics? What are your thougths/feelings about the DC New 52's revamp/reboot of Superman so far? Would you say Superman has gotten better or worse in comics over the years? Any favorite moments in filmed Superman media (examples: the 1996 animated Superman T.V. series and Smallvile)? Any merchandise collected so far (ex: statues)?

The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum: Heroines and Villainesses

Today, I post up the first ever topic for the DC and Marvel Heroes Forum to have both DC and Marvel stuff in one topic, and since today's International Women's Day, I thought about celebrating this special day by host a topic where the focus is on the heroines and villainesses from DC and Marvel. Over the years, DC Comics and Marvel Comics, like several other comic book companies, have wowed fans with fictional female heroines and villainesss, and these gals have been admired for not only their beauty, but also their sense of strength (physically and/or mentally), inginuity, combat skills, ambition, power, intelligence, etc. Some heroines and vilainessess even manage to be great leaders. With such amazing female characters, comics manage to remind us that women are capable of doing any task a man can accomplish.

Anyway, for discussion, you are to talk about your favorite heroines and villainesses from DC and/or Marvel. Make sure to talk about why you love these characters, and you're welcome to talk about your favorite moments involving them, whether it be from the comics or even from TV series and films based on the comic properties. As an option, you can argue which side you consider has the superior heroines and villainesses (DC or Marvel, or even both) and why.

The DC and Marvel Heroes Forum: The Superior Spider-Man

Today, I post up the first Marvel topic post for The Dc and Marvel Heroes Forum. For this post, the forum topic is Marvel Comics' currently running flagship Spider-Man title The Superior Spider-Man , which centers around former villain Otto Octavius as the current Spider-Man of the main Marvel Universe according to canon Marvel Universe continuity, although Otto manages to use the superhero identity after taking over Peter Parker's body in The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) No. 698. So far, the series have reached issue 4, and still remains a subject of controversy amoung Marvel Comics fans. Anyway, you the readers, are invited to share your thoughts about the comic book series so far, that is if you have been checking it out that is.

As you provide your comments in the comment box attached to this forum post, here are a few questions you my want to think about:
1) Do enjoy the dark-and-edgy content of the series? If not, do you miss the light-hearted tone of earlier Spider-Man comic book stories set in the main Marvel Universe?
2) Do you enjoy seeing Otto Octavius' handling of the Spider-Man identity and look forward to seeing more of Otto as Spidey in the future or do you feel like you need more time to get use to the character being his own Spider-Man, or perhaps you wished someone else was the new Spider-Man after Peter's apparent death in The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) No. 700?
3) What is your attitude towards the rumors that later issues of the series within this year will show Peter Parker trying to fight Otto Octavius to reclaim his body? Do you feel like it's too soon? (I do notice some fans are expecting Peter to came back in his body before the release of 2014's Spider-Man movie, even though none of the Spidey films are canon).
4) What Marvel Universe heroes will you like to see the new Spider-Man team up with and/or battle against in future stories? (can include characters who live in Marvel Universes outside the main Marvelverse, like say Miles Morales for example)
5) Do you find The Superior Spider-Man could use a prime-time/late-night animated T.V. series treatment and/or even an R-rated animated film treatment, even for the sake of ensuring that Spider-Man gets a chance in having an animated version made specially for adult audiences, counting long-time comic book readers?
