Kyrachan's Top 80 Countdown

30 - 21

30. Nanbaka OP - "Rin! Rin! Hi! Hi!"

TV Version | Full Version

Speaking of catchy openings, there's this beauty. When I first started listening to this song on a regular basis, I listened to the opening riff over and over again until I could understand it and have it memorized, at which point I figured I loved that riff so much that I made this song my ringtone (it still is). That's not to say the riff is the only good part of this song - it's fun to sing along to and the animation is so goshdang colorful and sparkly, matching fantastically with the anime it goes along with.

29. Assassination Classroom ED 2 - "Kaketa Tsuki"

TV Version | Full Version

The further I get from my days in high school, the fewer things I find can take me back to those days, so I need to treasure those things. This is one of them. It's so nostalgic and warm, it reminds me of childhood, running through sprinklers, but also my best friends, having fun late at night, and all the warm fuzzies that come from having a really good teacher you loved. This ending is something I truly treasure.

28. Youjo Senki OP - "Jingo Jungle"

TV Version | Full Version

Another gem from this year. I wasn't expecting to like this anime as much as I did, but it's ended up being one of my favorites so far this year. And, of course, it has an amazing opening to boot. The intensity fits so well with the series, showing shots of trenches and of Tanya trying to shoot the nutcracker (symbolizing her denying God). And, on top of that, it's just cool. A perfect fit.

27. Kekkai Sensen ED - "Sugar Song to Bitter Step"

TV Version

When I saw that the opening to Ballroom e Youkuso would be by Unison Square Garden, I literally screamed. While the only song I had known by them is this song, that was enough to get me excited. It's so jazzy, so upbeat, and has absolutely fantastic lyrics. On top of that, I love Kekkai Sensen for personal reasons that I've probably explained a bajillion times on here, so I won't go into detail. I even cosplayed as Leo in his outfit from the ending at a con last year (though no one recognized me ). It just goes to show how much I love this ending.

26. Kaiba OP - "Never"

TV Version | Full Version

Once in a blue moon, you come across a song you can listen to over and over and over and over again without ever getting tired of it. This song has been one of those songs for me. I've listened to it countless times when brainstorming and writing my (still unpublished) book. It has such a deep intimacy to it, expressing love beyond what most songs can. It's absolutely beautiful. Even now, I have to listen to the entire thing just because of how much I love it. I recommend giving the full version at least one listen, because it always gives me goosebumps.

25. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu 2 OP - "Imawa no Shinigami"

TV Version | Music Video

I mentioned earlier that Erased had the second most chilling change. Well, this anime has the most chilling. When I first saw it, it scared me so bad that I had to pause the show, rewind to double-check what I just saw, and it left me so unsettled. It wasn't any better the second time the change occured. Even now, when I watch the opening, even if I know it's not going to show up, I still have to look away at that part. Even beyond that, though, I love the slow yet intense feeling of the opening. It pulls no punches in foreshadowing what's going to happen, it only lets you ask the question how it's going to happen. And for that, I give it two thumbs up.

24. Tokyo Ghoul OP - "Unravel"

TV Version

By now this opening has become legend. I'm certain all of you have seen it multiple times. You might even have it on your own lists. And it definitely deserves it. The way the animation works with the song, the way the lyrics work with the actual anime, it all works together so well to create a haunting, emotional experience, one that will be remembered for years, if not decades to come.

23. Kekkai Sensen OP - "Hello, World!"

TV Version | Music Video

I love Bump of Chicken to a ridiculous degree. This is the first of three of their songs that will appear on this list. And this was the first introduction to them--given to me at a time when I really needed it. Like I mentioned, I have a personal connection to Kekkai Sensen, and this opening is a big part of it. The feeling of standing up and facing the world in a brand new, unfamiliar place really resounded with me. And for that, it gets high spots on my lists. It deserves it.

22. Ergo Proxy OP - "Kiri"

TV Version | Full Version

I remember an Anituber once mentioning this opening had pseudo-intellectual "depth". Well, no matter how deep it is or isn't, I've always loved this opening. I love how they put words on it, I love the grunginess, and I love how sweeping the song is. It's been on my top lists for years, I love it, and nothing can change my mind.

21. Death Parade ED - "Last Theater"

TV Version | Full Version

In the past this ending has been in the top 3, and while it has dropped considerably, it's still haunting. There's a moment I remember in the anime when this came on and the way it fit with the show, I just could not stop crying. That moment, the way it fit, is enough alone to put it on this list, even if it's not as high as it once was.
