Kyrachan's Top 80 Countdown

50 - 41

50. Clannad: After Story OP - "Toki wo Kizamu Uta"

TV Version | Full Version

Holy cow, this opening wants to make me cry. It's so gentle, so beautiful, and it goes so well with the emotions from the anime. The animation is absolutely gorgeous and the song is nostalgic and sweet. It's even a little bit catchy--it's always fun to sing when the chorus comes on. Overall, I have both sad and sweet memories of this opening, which makes it so gorgeous.

49. The Tatami Galaxy OP - "Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat

TV Version

It is of my opinion that The Tatami Galaxy is the highest-quality anime out there, and it's the one anime that every college student needs to watch before they graduate. Well, with such high praise, how's the opening? While it's not the most dramatic or beautifully animated opening, it's jazzy beat and laid-back nature is absolutely perfect for the show, and when you find out *ahem* certain things about the opening, it makes it all that much better.

48. Erased OP - "Re: Re:"

TV Version

Have you ever seen an opening that changes for some reason partway through? This opening has the (second) most chilling change, coming in at episode 11. On top of the already great opening, that change will be enough to emotionally get you invested and make you remember it for a long, long time.

47. Subete ga F ni Naru OP - "Talking"

TV Version | Full Version

Over the years, I've started to learn that I really like watching dance. The choreography and what the dancers say with it is just so fascinating. So it should be little surprise that I've fallen in love with an opening that has rotoscoped dancers. On top of that, the funky song adds its own spice to the show, and the somewhat social-awkwardness of the lyrics fit perfectly with the main characters. Overall, a fantastic opening.

46. Monster OP - "Grain"

TV Version

Monster is a chilling anime. It makes you feel so slightly off and gives you a vague sense of danger. This opening is great for that. The distant choirs, the haunting imagery, it all gets you in just that feeling of being slightly scared, the perfect state in which to enter this anime.

45. Steins;Gate OP "Hacking to the Gate"

TV Version | Full Version

I mentioned earlier that you have to give perfection its due, and this is another example of that. Though I wasn't a fan of the opening for the first few years after I watched this show, once I rewatched the opening a couple years ago, I fell in love with it. The song is fun, and the animation is just so detailed and smooth. It definitely deserves its place in my top openings and endings.

44. ACCA OP - "Shadow and Truth"

TV Version | Full Version

We're only a couple seasons into 2017, and already we have a few fantastic openings, such as this one. So far ACCA is my favorite new 2017 anime, and this opening certainly helps. The song is funky and catchy and the art is colorful and stylish. Some parts are just mysterious enough that you're wondering what you just saw, but other parts show off just smooth animation that's fun to watch.

43. Psycho-Pass 2 OP - "Enigmatic Feeling"

TV Version

Psycho-Pass has a lot of great openings, and maybe it's a little bit controversial to pick the one from the second season as a favorite, but I'm still going to stand by it. It's so loud and high energy, but in a panicky, nervous way that works great for the thriller that Psycho-Pass is. The animation is rough and fast and slightly off-putting. It works well with the atmosphere of the show.

42. Tokyo Ghoul Root A ED - "Seasons Die One After Another"

TV Version | Music Video

I think the most important thing to me in most openings/endings is the music, and this is a great example of that. Though the artwork in the ending is absolutely beautiful, the kind I would want to hang on my wall, it's the music that really draws me in. The lyrics make me want to cry and work so well for the anime. I've listened to this so much I can sing along to it and yet I still never want to stop listening to it. That's why I love this ending so much.

41. Durarara!!x2 Ten OP - "Day You Laugh"

TV Version | Full Version

I love Durarara!!, but all the openings are so similar. So the question is, what sets this opening apart? Well, a few things. First is the singer, who is also the voice actor for Ryuugamine, and voice actors also singing openings and endings is something I absolutely love. Another thing is how, if you pay attention throughout, Ryuugamine is always just lingering somewhere in the background. And maybe it has something to do with the fact it's the only opening that features my favorite character, Mizuki. Who knows.
