KyraChan's Top 50 Countdown

20 - 11

20. Neon Genesis Evangelion OP - "A Cruel Angel's Thesis"

x

This song is my ringtone. That itself should show how much I love this opening. Now, as to why I love it... I'm not completely sure. I suppose the best answer I can give is that it reminds me so much of the show itself. This song has become inseparable from the anime I love so much, and thus in turn made it become one of my favorite openings.

19. Steins;Gate ED - "Toki Tsukasadoru Juuni no Meiyaku"

x

A major part of what makes an ending great is not only what it is, but how it's used. When I think if this ending, I think of all the mind-blowing plot twists that happened right before it started playing. Because of that, I cannot hear it without getting shivers down my back. It's because of that incredible way it's used that I ended up loving it as much as I do.

18. xxxHolic OP 1 - "19sai"

x

I've mentioned before how much I love Suga Shikao, right? Well, enter the first song I've ever heard by him. When I first heard it, I immediately fell in love with the smooth, elegant funk that works so well with the anime. But it's not only the music that made me fall in love with this opening - the mysterious visuals add to it greatly, too. You get to see so many supernatural things happen, but the thing that always stood out to me was when all the shadows of the poles are moving with the sunset, but then one moves on its own. That little moment in the opening has always sent shivers down my spine.

17. Persona 4 OP 1 - "Sky's the Limit"

x

To be honest, the reason why I love this opening so much is completely personal. You see, during these past few months this song has come to remind me so much of my friend group. I can't hear this song without thinking of them. So that's why it's so high on the list.

16. Space Dandy OP - "Viva Namida"

x

If you've been paying close attention to this list, you may have noticed that I really love funk. Well, it's time for the funkiest opening of them all to take the stage. Honestly, this one actually surprised me - I never really thought of how much I love this opening until I started working on this list. Either way, it ended up proving itself to be one of my absolute favorites.

15. Log Horizon OP 1 - "Database"

x

Or, as I like to call it, "The Song You Can't Listen To Without Fist-Pumping". And I'm serious on that one - whenever it comes on, I have to drop whatever I'm doing and fist-pump. It's just that energetic. The visuals are brilliant, too, especially the super-obvious spoiler it contains that I forgot about right before the spoiler happened. =n= It's a brilliant opening for a brilliant show.

14. Deadman Wonderland OP - "One Reason"

x

When I have a favorite anime, I can usually easily figure out what makes it a favorite. However, it took me two years to figure out why I love Deadman Wonderland so much. Now I have the answer - I love it for its juxtaposition. There's a hopeful and playful side, but it's complimented with this really dark, horrific side. This opening reflects the latter side very well - the red, monochromatic colour scheme, the rock tune, and the lyrics - especially the lyrics, all add up to this angry, destroyed, and beyond desperate feeling. It represents the dark side perfectly, and that's why I love this opening so much.

13. Zankyou no Terror ED - "Dareka Umiwo"

x

Goosebumps. Just goosebumps. I'm not sure why I love it, only that it gives me goosebumps.

12. Assassination Classroom ED - "Hello, Shooting Star"

x

If you've been paying attention, another thing you might have noticed is that I love nostalgic songs. Well, this is the most nostalgic of them all. It always reminds me of looking up at the stars, which I've done at almost all my key points in life. The stars will always have a special meaning to me, and this song touches that special feeling just right.

11. Kuroshitsuji ED 2 - "Lacrimosa"

x

I remember that when I heard the first Kuroshitsuji ending, I didn't like it very much because it didn't really reflect the style of the show. And then came the second ending, with its soaring melodies, gorgeous singing, and beautiful lyrics. This ending just exudes the haunting, dark style that Kuroshitsuji has, and when an ending exudes the style of my favorite anime, it's no surprise that that ending becomes one of my favorites, too.
