KyraChan's Top 50 Countdown

50 - 41

50. Death Note ED 1 - "Alumina"

x

As one of the first endings I've ever experienced, this has managed to stick with me over time. In fact, I finalized the list just so I could keep this on it. I especially love the colours, the lyrics, and the symbolism, and how it all ties into the anime that I still consider one of my favorites.

49. Paranoia Agent OP - "Dream Island Obsessional Park"

x

This opening perfectly reflects its anime - abstract, and slightly unsettling. The seemingly manic nature of this opening has always thrown me off a little, which, in this case, is a good thing. There's nothing like watching a bunch of people laugh at you to remind you how good Satoshi Kon is at bending your mind in the most brilliantly disturbing of ways.

48. Free! ED 1 - "Splash Free"

x

I once tried to make a line dance to this song. That fact right there should be an example of how much I love this ending. The beautiful visuals that perfectly blend the idea of plentiful water and a parched desert, as well as the extremely catchy lyrics make this an ending to remember. Oh, and Haru's hair flip. Just his hair flip.

47. Angel Beats OP - "My Soul, Your Beats"

x

This opening is very... nostalgic. It brings back so many of the feelings first felt when watching this anime and, as many of them have each come to watch and love this anime, it also reminds me of my friends. The beauty of the song and animation of this opening manages to bring out bittersweet emotions that otherwise could not easily be expressed.

46. Princess Tutu OP - "Morning Grace"

I'm still not 100% sure why I still love this opening so much. Perhaps it's because of the sweet, gentle, ethereal nature of it that mirrors the gentle nature of the show itself - until the show gets turned on its head, that is. And once it does, this grounds the show in its ethereal tone instead. This opening is so mystical, so beautiful, and so graceful (no pun intended) that it still manages to be one of my favorites.

45. Another OP - "Kyoumu Densen"

x - Link is to a full version of the song due to a lack of a quality video of the opening

I don't think it's a secret that I love horror. In fact, I'm super hyped for Ranpo Kitan coming out this season for so many different reasons, one of them being that it's one of the best (and most stylistic) horror anime I've seen for a long time. You know what's another wonderful, stylistic horror anime? Another - and this opening perfectly shows it. Both the visuals and the music manage to be creepy and completely thrilling. It represents the horror genre wonderfully, and that's why I love it so much.

44. Saraiya Goyou OP - "Sign of Love"

x - Link is to a full version of the song due to a lack of a quality video of the opening

I finished this anime just before I decided to finalize this list, and I'm so glad I made it in time. At first I wasn't thrilled with this song in relation to the anime, but I soon realized that the sensitive, loving nature of the lyrics reflect the anime in brilliant ways I never would have expected, and I have come to love this opening (and anime) deeply.

43. Baccano! OP - "Guns & Roses"

x

This opening has become almost iconic for its rambunctious nature and use of swing jazz to set the 30's tone. Well, as a player of jazz music, I can tell you that the more rambunctious a song is, the better... (usually). This is a great example of that, as the catchy nature and great use of a saxophone solo work wonderfully with this loud and exuberant show.

42. Gankutsuou OP - "We Were Lovers"

x

I used to be obsessed with this song, and it's not hard to see why. The soft, romantic nature of the melody and the muted visuals represent the subtle sorrows of the tragedies contained within this show brilliantly.

41. Tokyo Ghoul ED - "Seijatachi"

x

I already expressed how one of my favorite things in an ending is paintings, and well, this ending has plenty of beautiful paintings - but that really isn't the biggest reason why I love this ending. What I really love is the song - that laid-back funky beat, that smooth melody, as well as the on-point singing. This song exudes style, and that's the reason why I love it so much. In fact, I love it so much I made a wallpaper out of it, and means a lot.
