Hello, everyone!

You have reached the rambling, the fangirling, and the general chill-pad of theOtaku's NightBeck, a.k.a Becky, a.k.a Crimson Lotus the Irish Ninja.

... okay, maybe not the last one. But people will be calling me that one day.

This is your place to chill, talk about life and fandom, and be generally crazy. So go on. Play nice, be good to each other, don't make me hurt you.

My favorite series: Princess Tutu, Ookiku Furikabutte, Mushishi, xxxHOLiC, Monster, Black Lagoon, Ergo Proxy, Escaflowne, and Baccano!

My writing: Cafe Cliche

I'll stop with the bullet points when life stops being eventful...

- Caught Melissa's cold, which has mostly just left me dragging a bit. I think I might be able to kick it tonight with a good meal and a lot of sleep. - Arrived in Tokyo, stayed in swanky hotel that I was too congested to enjoy much. I did ...

And suddenly, it's all worth it.

Dear Rebecca,

Congratulations! You have been accepted conditionally to the Tokyo AS program for the spring 2009 term!

Sophia University retains the right to review all admissions in lieu of official acceptance by CIEE. Final approval will be assessed by Sophia and CIEE will notify you via e-mail in late November to early December.

In October you will receive an official CIEE acceptance e-mail that will provide instructions on how to access the acceptance materials through your on-line checklist. Once you receive that e-mail, you will need to return the completed materials to our office by the dates indicated on your checklist.

I will be your pre-departure contact here at CIEE and I will do my best to assist you while we prepare for your experience. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the program, please let me know.

Cheers,

Chris

A study abroad word problem.

So here's the thing: literally the last things that still had to be sent in for the CIEE Tokyo application were my teacher recommendations. Sekino-sensei told me last Wednesday that she planned to send my recommendation on that Thursday, probably by regular post. Fraleigh gave me his on Friday, and I sent it myself by expedited post. I'm in Waltham (eastern Massachusetts), and CIEE headquarters is in Portland (centralish Maine), which is a rather short distance.

Well, this morning, according to my online account, one of the recs made it there: Fraleigh's. Which does make sense, since I sent Fraleigh's by priority mail, but... it's also Tuesday, and it shouldn't have taken more than two days to send.

I need to allow some time for backup at CIEE with the deadline coming up, and a little more time for the post office being a bit slow. But how much time should I allow before making sure Sekino-sensei really did send it on Thursday and didn't forget.

(This message brought to you by the fact that I'll get my acceptance/rejection a week after all the materials are in, and this is literally the last thing holding me up. GAH.)
