Glad to hear that you got an idea now ^^ Yep it is already frustrating to draw one person...so 6...is way more frustrating. I would just go for the 5 and imagine where the 6th one could be using a separate reference. Good luck and I can't wait to see the result.
That is frustrating, but your idea sounds cool. What i usually do when I can't find the right references is that I would use multiple reference pics at one time. So maybe if I'm working on 6 characters, I would try to find a pic with two and a pic with four and put them together. Hope that helps!

Have you ever heard of Senshistock on DA? Maybe you can use her photos for reference: LINK
She has some good poses you can use and combine? I hope that helps.

Maybe you could look at some Touhou collages and redesign their outfits.
Touhou characters aren't really "magical girl"-ish but they are expansive.
