Movic goods from Japan: reading can badge and acrylic stand listings
If you have a blind-box can badge, an acrylic stand or a rubber strap from an anime you love, there is a good chance the small print on the back says Movic (ムービック). A lot of overseas fans have never heard the name, because Movic goods usually reach the West through resellers rather than the brand itself. Here is a short field guide for anyone trying to buy them from Japan.
Movic vs Animate
People mix the two up. Animate is mainly a retailer: the shop chain and the big online mall. Movic is a merchandise maker and specialty retailer inside the same Animate Group. In short, Movic often plans and makes the goods, and Animate is one of the main places they are sold. That is why a Movic badge can turn up at an Animate store, at a pop-up cafe, at an event booth or on movic.jp itself.
What Movic actually makes
- Can badges (缶バッジ). The pin-back badges behind Japan's trading and itabag culture, usually sold as blind-box sets tied to one series.
- Acrylic stands and acrylic keychains. Flat printed figures on a base, cheap, durable and very collectible.
- Straps and charms. Rubber straps, metal charms and phone accessories.
- Apparel, stationery and daily goods. T-shirts, totes, clear files, stickers, mugs.
- Event and collab goods. Releases for premieres, conventions and pop-up cafes, often in short runs.
Because so much of this is made in limited runs, popular acrylic stands and collab badges can sell out within hours and then reappear on Mercari or Suruga-ya at a premium. That second-hand market is where most overseas buyers end up.
Reading a second-hand listing
Search the series name plus the product type in Japanese: 缶バッジ for badges, アクスタ or アクリルスタンド for acrylic stands, ラバーストラップ for rubber straps, and add ムービック if you only want Movic pieces. A few words that matter in the listing:
- 未開封 means unopened, so the blind bag is still sealed and you do not know which character is inside. 開封済み means opened, which is how you buy one specific character.
- ランダム or トレーディング means the item was originally sold blind. A "set" listing (セット or コンプ, complete) should state how many pieces are included.
- For acrylic stands, check whether the base and the protective film are mentioned. Missing bases are common on opened lots.
Buying new from movic.jp
Movic's own shop is built for the Japanese market: Japanese-only interface, a Japanese address in most cases, and no reliable worldwide shipping. A proxy can place the order for you, but goods sold only by lottery (抽選), with purchase limits, or requiring Japanese ID verification or a store membership can't be bought that way. Badges and stands are light, so the sensible move is to let several small orders arrive in Japan and ship them as one parcel. For US buyers, the $800 de minimis exemption no longer applies: since 29 August 2025, parcels of any value go through customs and pay applicable duties, taxes and fees.
