    I'm very glad to hear it's going to be alright between you two! Just tell her "i'm sorry to hear that you're not going to make it". "Best of luck in whatever you choose or whatever happens". Ask her what her plans are, can she try again?

    I would recomend 'Trigun', It's a pretty old anime but it's super funny and futuristic. Also I'm glad you made peace with your friend but it's sad she wasn't able to attend the same college as you.

    Lol, that's basically what I've been doing for the past few days.
    Insert "homework" and "actually going out...OMG!" in a few of those slots, and ta-da, you get my weekends!

    I suggest you just tell her the honest truth, but if you suspect her to get angry use this phrase:
    "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but--" honesty is the best policy, y'know. If she's your friend, she'll understand, I know that sounds all cliché but its the truth.

    Action/Psychological/Sci-Fi/No Highschool;
    if you're looking for a dark, life-like show watch "Welcome to the NHK!" unless you're very depressed, it'll make you feel dead.
    That and I'd suggest "Cowboy Bebop".

    Pff, I'm the same on my weekends... Except I do some semi-profitable stuff until about noon to convince my family I'm not totally a lazy butt.

    In regards to anime... Steins;Gate seems to be right up your alley. I'd also recommend Now and Then, Here and There (warning - it is really dark. Maybe FLCL, assuming you can handle its randomness. I think that's it for all the things that immediately come to mind.

    I usually have more food spots on my weekend wheel.

    As far as your friend, sometimes just listening to her will help, more than saying anything.

    For your anime suggestions:
    Serial Experiments Lain (psychology/scifi)
    Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex (scifi/future)
    Paranoid Agent (Psychology)
    Elfen Lied (just plain messed up)
    texhnolyze (scifi/future/psycology-ish)

    Those are the ones off the top of my brain.
