Basically, okay, it wasn't like the whole utter darkness scary face bit was real--it was just her subconscious facing her fears for the first time because it was the first time she'd let her guard down.
The items she threw at what she feared were important to her in some way.
And by facing her fears inside her head, when she awoke, she realized that they were stupid, pretty much, because she had no reason to fear those things.

It was pretty abstract.
