DIVINE beloved blood

“Yes, but I can tell you what is right.” Cameron was chuckling. “I am a godsend, am I not? Isn’t that how the priests in your church would say it, Camille?”

Camille hated the smirk on that little brat’s face. He wanted to cut it clean off.

The sun was dipping behind the mountains when Camille arrived at “home”. Cameron had dissipated into the air about an hour ago, when it started to get dark. Camille wondered if Lucian was “home”; he hated stumbling around in the dark.

Camille sighed as he walked up the stone walkway. He could hear that woman, his mother, humming her favorite song. She was always humming that song when she was alone; Camille wasn’t aware if the song had lyrics or not. The melody had always been haunting to Camille; it always sent chills down his spine.
Camille reached for the rusty door knob slowly, debating if he should go sleep out on the streets instead of in his bed. Anything was better that sleeping at “home”. To have to face that woman again was…

“Why are you hesitating?” Cameron’s voice sounded ghostly, as if it was inside his head.

“What?” Camille turned around to find no one; only an empty road, and a dark forest. “Wh-“ He spotted Cameron perched on a tree branch on the tree that grew above his family’s cottage. “What is it that you want, demon?”
“You did not honestly think I would leave just like that, did you?” Cameron said, smiling. His eyes looked like they were glowing. He chuckled, swinging his dangling legs back and forth like a child. The look on his face was one of pure innocence. “I’m here to help you, remember?”

“I told you I didn’t want your help.” Camille snapped.

“I just wanted to tell you that your brother, Lucian, is indeed home; I returned him. And…” Cameron smiled like he knew an important secret. He spoke quietly, his voice sharp, yet gentle, and it cut straight through Camille like a sword. “Congratulations, your mother has given birth; it’s a girl.”

Camille felt his chest constrict, and his breath caught in his throat. His hand went straight to Eli’s hilt.

“Aren’t you glad?” Cameron’s voice was mocking. “Am I not the harbinger of good news? All I need to complete the look is a halo and a little pair of wings, correct?” He laughed. “Enjoy the little bundle of flesh.”
