I want to adapt as a sorceress costume

I have a black velvet gown that I want to adapt as a sorceress <a href="http://www.justcostume.com/metallic-zentai.html">shiny metallic zentai suit</a>, but I’m trying to figure out what to do on my head. I’d love a high crown, kind of slanting back. I haven’t found anything like that for sale, though, and can’t think of what material I’d use to make one. Alternately, I’d like to do my hair up in a curly bride-o-frank beehive. I bought some hair goop called “Ice”, which reminds me a lot of Elmer’s glue (which I used to use for spikes in high school in the 80s), but it takes a lot to make my hair stand up and doesn’t dry very well. Maybe a series of spikes all wound through my hair?

Another thing you might want to try is building yourself a “birdcage” out of florists wire to use as a support for your ‘do. Make the bottom circle a little smaller than your head and bring the sides up as high as you’d like and connect them. Cover the outside in some mesh that matches your hair color approximately (fabric stores have lots cheap), then cover it with your hair and bobby pins. If you’ll be outside, you can fill the middle with foam. If not, you’ll get way too hot!

The best stuff that I’ve ever known anyone to use is either that Elmer’s blue glue or Dax Wax. My friend has one of those really tall spiked mohawks and uses the glue all the time–it stays up and hasn’t damaged his hair. I use Dax Wax- it comes in a red metal can and you can get it for $2 at Walgreens (in the hair dye section) or the Dollar Store. The trick with waxes is to warm then (just rub your hands a bit)–then when you put it in the different sections of your hair heat it with a hairdryer to make it flexible for styling. Top it with a mega hold hairspray and once it dries/cools it’ll stay put as long as you want.

You’ve probably seen me posting around about doing walkabouts in morphsuit gear? I’ve done 5 of these so far, and have buy zentai suit 3 in the planning. I’m thinking about ‘formalising’ this. What I mean is, I want to “call ourselves an institute” – give a name to the group, give a sense that it’s a more organised group of people than it is, give it an artistic presence, try to establish it as an artistic venture in its own right.
I feel these walkabouts could turn into quite a significant thing if more people come along and we keep doing different trips to different places and accumulate more and more Silvery Shiny Metallic Zentai Costume. I want it to get to a stage where it deserves an internet presence of its own, and I want to establish that now. Also, I’d like to get some visibility in the artistic community – I’ve not really any idea what that means, but by having a named group with a website, I can propose the group into listing etc and see where it gets us. Would be interesting to be able to “apply for arts council funding” but that’s not a primary objective. As they went downstream, a crowd saw it , liked it so much everybody decided at the same time to hop on for a ride and a pile of splinters was all that remained shortly of the sub-creation…

Yet another example of a fortune lost in my lifetime, maybe I should sew suit coats on small spiders next time!
