falling victim
If you’re like me, you were to finish the full body zentai suit that the market first Totters until this year. Have one of your accessories or “falling victim” set and not set this year?
I bought the Spirit Harvester prop, and it has never been out of the box due to time constraints. Which, I guess it’s cool, considering it may be new for next year. I also got a new pair Bluck great I have not had time to develop, and a “victim of a spider’s web” of Wal-Mart I did not open.
A number of little things do not display this year, mostly put things in detail as strings, faux barbed wire, foam, etc.. I also have new things that have not been out for two years now because of time constraints. A few things have conspired to put me under the gun on Halloween day, namely the work of the day and bad weather during the week. But really, I’m the only one who knew. The amount of stuff that was there made quite an impression, even on me. And it’s close enough for jazz. There’s always next year to nail it! Yes I am guilty of forgetting something. I bought a bunch of lights landscaping Waymart had crackled glass globes in July. I just wanted the globes. I was going to use them in my decorating with some flashing LED to light the haunting. I put in a box on a shelf and when we were packing everything away, I saw the box sitting there.
Well it gives me months to get these things so much that I can use next time. I never set up anything because we have too many things. In fact, I started serving some things that have not been used for years. No need to keep something that has not been used and never will again.
I waited too long to start my tombstones and only two were finished with lettering. The rest was hastily locked gray dry so they can at least be set up remotely. I will definitely work on these throughout the next year, especially if I want to create the detail that many members have shown in their graves. I bought the fabric, but never built my Boogie Man size to my nightmare on the theme of bathroom (the bathroom downstairs has a shower that will be complete “Oogie lair”). Not much, since all of next year will be the theme of Halloween Nightmare Before Christmas and will be the perfect time for him. I never tell anyone what my plans are for the year, this so if I can not do something, nobody will know and no matter what I’m always “good home”.
About 25% of my collection of yellow zentai suit accessories has not seen the night of Halloween. I have so much to do, and this year I have really bad back pain. I also forgot a few accessories in the basement, as my skeleton in a cage, my vampire Staggering was not ready, my body PVC accessories were not made, I was supposed to have some thematic SILENT HILL to haunt not have time to do anything to him a lot. Next year we start is in September instead of October. We learned our lesson this year. My son told me a couple of years, “Dad, you’re the only things missing that are not taken out.” And he’s right – they do not miss what they do not see. There is usually not enough out. As for this year, new things have been finished with minutes to spare, but ran out of time to correct some of the things broken in the last year I kept meaning to move. Note to self – make a list and check it.
What should I wear for Halloween party
I’m going to a halloween party and I need your opinion buy zentai suit: an escaped mental asylum patient who is a masochist, leatherface, michael myers, a dapper corpse.
an escaped mental asylum patient who is a masocist:
Could be great fun – especially if you have access to a straitjacket…a little bit of make up work (add a couple of “injuries” with some latex…perhaps put a safety pin or such into one of them..
This one may take some acting ability however…you’ll want to turn everything anyone says to you into some kind of statement that means they’re going to hurt you now…please…
leatherface – almost more of a physique based kind of zebra zentai suit in my opinion…anyone who’s short or thin won’t pull it off so well. Lots and lots of fun with a chainsaw and intimidation though. The hair might be a stretch – if you have short hair, or are bald at all, you’ll want a wig to give that wild, manic hair that just screams “I sleep with corpses”.
michael myers – another one where I’d say height is a real factor. This one’s a great excuse to get uncomfortably close to people, just to watch them squirm. Real advantage to this one is, it’s all mask based…once the mask is off, even the costume (assuming a simple jumpsuit) is kind of non-descript.
a dapper corpse – this one would certainly take some work for the makeup, but can be just as much fun as the mental patient (if not more so), with turning every phrase into something about being passed on…buried…already dead…body parts falling off…dead friends
How can I making an evil Santa costume face
A good start is obviously with a Santa spandex zentai. If you own the suit and are not renting it I’d suggest dirtying it up a bit. I also always thought that when the beard was pulled down under the chin it made the Santa look a lot less like Santa and more like a psychopath. Add some dark makeup under and around the eyes, add some scars and some blood and you’re good to go. If you have the means gets some red or yellow contact lenses as well. Don’t forget to top it all off with a blood smeared fake ax and maybe a present bag with a fake arm sticking out of it.
As a kid I saw the Tales from the Crypt – All Through the House episode where a homicidal maniac Santa was on the loose. That santa scares me to this day…..I’d attach a photo but all pics are blocked here at work. Try doing a Google image search for Tales from the Crypt Santa and I’m sure he’ll come up. I used to design & build rooms for our local Jaycees haunted house and one year I wanted to do the whole twisted Christmas black zentai theme with a charred santa coming out of the fireplace……..but the head honcho’s shot down that idea real quick!
I bought Tales from the Crypt – Season 1 for that episode alone. It’s a Christmas tradition of mine to watch it every year on Christmas Eve. Also a premastered edition of Silent Night Deadly Night was released not too long ago, another good Christmas themed horror movie. Although the king of all Christmas horror movies is and will always be Black Christmas. The original of course.
I love aging clothes and fabrics
I’m hoping this is the spot to post this; it’s a little confusing to me where it should be L. For a while now, I’ve wanted to start a business (out of home based shop and online) for one of a kind, handmade zentai suits (some combined with props) to cater to the smaller haunts and home haunts. I’ve looked at tons of costume sites online and everything I’ve seen (with a handful of exceptions) are the same things that you can find in the stores. In other words, cheap fabrics, machine created and overpriced. No offense to anyone by saying that, but you all knows what I’m talking about. I would like to have a small business that could offer zebra zentai suit and pieces at reasonable prices for the people that want some quality. I love aging clothes and fabrics and have come up with some great ways to make them for haunts that not only give the look, but the feel, the smell, the whole package. I’ve got notebooks of designs for gorgeous historical costumes, fabrics gathering dust and lots of time to put my imagination to other’s good use doing something that I love.
So here’s my question: do any of you think there would be a market for it? Nothing I do would be any kind of mass produced product, it would be just like my other costuming I’ve done. One at a time, with quality and reuse in mind. I’ve done renaissance costumes for stage fighters that have lasted 4 and 5 seasons of getting beat on and still look like they were just made. But I’ve also done Marie Ann style “ghost” gowns that scare the hell out of people, but yet they can’t look away for the beauty of the fabrics.
So, what do I do? I’m planning a little costume sale out of my garage this fall with some “quickie” costumes that I know will sell just for the $ alone, but I also plan to put a few select ones of my really good ideas out, too. But other than the fall, business like that does me no good. I would like to set up something where I could be working year round. I think I could have my husband build me a website that I could showcase some work on and then also take on custom orders if people want as well.
Is this a good idea? Is there a market our there for it? Or should I just stick with what I’ve been doing – volunteer community theater work and some local haunts – where, honestly I DO love it, but I feel like I’m only using a 5th of my talents and the rest is wasted.
Steampunk Short Film
Whilst many costumes and props are already locked in buy zentai, the greatest challenge thus far has been generating enough old style guns, swords, and general background costumes for extras. I was lead on to the Costumer’s guild through another costumer who suggested this may be the place to find some steampunk enthusiasts that would like to have some of their work on show. If anyone out there has any swords, single shot weapons, custom steampunk gadgets, or ‘pirate’ style lycra bodysuit that they would be willing to lend to the project in exchange for their work being credited and seen on film, please contact me at the email address below. Feel free to contact me if you’re looking for additional information on the project, or visit www.Urtextfilms.com and check out their ‘films’ section and click on ‘Aurora’ to see some concept art. Whilst the film does not have the necessary budget to be able to financially reimburse all people for their dedication and resources, we do have the resources and favors to create a very special film and we look forward to sharing it with everyone when it is completed mid-year 2009.
If you’re looking for people to supply costumes it helps if we know what size the people are who would be wearing them – for example I’m short (150cm) so anybody wearing something of mine would need to be a similar height (and weight). However that said, the Guild tends to attract people who like to make and wear their own creations, rather than those who make costumes for other people as a business. So a good percentage of us will be reluctant to lend our clothes to a film shoot, as they are our clothing, not a ‘throw away, wear once’ costume. And unfortunately, those of us who have lent stuff to film companies before, have had to repair damage from people either not realising this, or to be fair – been damaged simply from the rigours of that particular scene.
You might even have better luck trying to work a deal with a costume hire company as their costumes are built to take more abuse and they may reduce (though I doubt waive) their fees in return for film credit. But I have mentioned this post to another Guild member who might be able to help you out, at least with the Steampunk guns etc. He’s not on this website very regulary, so you may have some luck there. I’m sorry if I’ve come across a bit negative, and I do wish you good luck with your shoot. It’s always exciting to hear of new (local!) indie films being made.
