If there is a corset making course
I was reading up on articles on how to make superhero zentai, and well, I’ve decided I like the ribbon style and/or the hourglass style type. Especially the type that come under the breast. I don’t like ones that come up over the breast because it squishes them in and up and out the sides and if you squeeze the boobs in too much you just look like you have fat coming out the sides, and breasts aren’t as distinct as I’d like.
That really is the sign of a badly fitted pink zentai suit. I know. I’ve been there learnt a lot and luckily gave the corset away. I am barely an A cup and my 1880s over the bust corset doesn’t constrict the bust, but that’s because I made mine as per the original pattern. The shapes are supposed to be exaggerated not to your scale. So you have a little extra room in the bust and hips while you remove material from the waist. Sizing down all over doesn’t work to get that historical look. I haven’t yet tried them but I suspect bust gores are going to be an even better option because you can more easily cut to account for a sudden difference in chest and bust size rather than graduated like with long seams.
I’m really pleased to hear that those are the signs of a badly fitted corset. It usually happens as a result of people squishing their boobs in too tightly (why would you do that?) And they start falling out the sides… and it starts to look more like arm fat. For the best example, try to find a Goth who is more on the larger side who’s wearing a corset. They almost always wear corsets that have that effect. Apologies to those who are in that category who are reading this. But no I’m really pleased to hear that what I see is not what it’s supposed to be like. I’m not game enough to try bust gores for my first corset, but I agree with the mechanics in that you will be able to more easily adjust for a difference in chest-waist ratio.
Broken Doll Costume
My friend at work is a bit stuck on her zentai online this year. She’s come up with quite a cool idea. A broken doll. I kind of picture a china doll type outfit, like an old fashioned smock dress and frilly short sleeved blouse with white tights and little black shoes. Then a jagged black line right across her face and her hair all mussed up and pushed over to one side. We threw some ideas about at work today, and don’t really have anything solid in mind. I was wondering what some of the creative masters here might come up with.
That sounds like a great metallic zentai. I don’t know how broken she wants to be but maybe she could make it as if some of her hair has been pulled out with some sort of partial bald cap with bits of hair pulled through to keep it on and give a nice effect. Perhaps she could have lost a shoe or her hand could have broken off (with long sleeves this should be easy enough). Also if she is to be an old doll, she could give her clothes a well aged look. She should definitely post pictures of the completed costume. It sounds quite original.
I’m being the same exact thing for Halloween. What I did with my costume is I drew stitches on all over by body to make it look like someone tore me apart and then put me back together. She should also use black eye shadow and completely COVER her eyes with it along with black lipstick. It adds to the affect of her being a creepy broken doll. Being that I actually made the clothes with my costume I don’t really have much advice on what she could do with that. What I did was I sewed a spider web onto my shirt and I made a tattered-looking skit to go along with it that was made from tons of different material. She should also go to Payless or something to get striped stockings she could wear. Oh, and she could also go to Hot Topic or something to get a pair of arm warmers. Those really add a good touch to it all.
Should I just leave it on
I was shopping the other day for nothing in particular and bought a dress for the haunted house. It’s just a summer full body zentai suit and looks nothing like a dress for haunted house. But it was five dollars and I thought it had potential. Its dark purple and it comes down to a little past mid-thigh. And it’s sleeveless but it has like. Inch thick straps. And a white layer underneath. I thought it was good because it was just the right length and with the white underneath I could put some tears in the dress without revealing anything and I could put blood on it and it would show up better. But it has this flowery pattern on the bottom. I can’t cut it off because then the custom zentai suit would be too short. Should I just leave it on?? I thought about maybe ripping some of the holes. But there’s so many and the thread around it is so thick I don’t know if I could and it still look right.
The words to “pop goes the weasel” even sound creepy and enunciating the POP sets them up for a good scare, especially if the big guy is behind them on the POP. “Ring around the rosie” is actually about the black plague and how its symptoms/effects. Most of those have a pretty dark background story or are a way for commoners to gossip about the failings of Nobles done in a way to escape beheading/imprisonment. So, they are naturally dark. I have a friend who was doing the kid thing but was playing with bucky bones (bag of bones from anatomical chart company) like lincoln logs and blocks. He was acting all absorbed and singing….creeped me out a bit.
Last year I thought my makeup was boring, but I actually got alot of compliments on it. I applied the lightest shade of foundation (at a $ store) I could find & set it with a light dusting of baby powder. Then with a eyeshadow brush (not pad) I applied a combination of charcoal grey & blue eyeshadow along with some old blush around my eyes. The secret is to not overdo it. I then very lightly dusted blue eyeshadow around my lips. Make sure to use all matte colors. Also, if you want your face to look more gaunt lightly apply some of the grey eyeshadow just under your cheekbones. Another thought that just came to mind is to make up your face to look like a porcelain doll. I’m just not sure how to pull that off exactly. Other than fake eyelashes, rosy checks & red rosebud lips.
Deal with my Pirate costume
I was debating on selling my Pirate full body zentai suit after Halloween, but I figured on hanging on to it, you never know when you will feel like going plundering. I see you are in Central Florida too. Was this an Orange County or Seminole County School? My son’s school didn’t use my canons I made because they were considered weapons. I was just wondering about your sword and your grandson’s, if it was a problem for anyone. I could probably find a case in history where someone was killed with a book, then I could get all books banned if I felt like being a jerk.
I work in A costume shop during the season that sells costumes in all price ranges and rents professionally made ones, too. But some of the best costumes that I’ve seen are ones that people put together on a budget! I noticed you used a women’s shirt and belt for your white zentai. In putting together a salty sea dog look of me own, I too discovered that the more pirate-like apparel in secondhand shops could only be found in the women’s clothing section – fringed shirts, wide belts with large buckles, silk scarves. Ye be having a sharp eye for fine attire for the high seas, says I.
Homemade costumes almost always look better! At my party last year I had a friend dress as a gypsy fortune teller so we scoured the thrift stores for a good costume. Dress from Salvation Army, scarves from Goodwill and the clearance rack and Gabriel Bros., jewelry from the Dollar Store, etc. Half way through the night she changed into a “sexy”, store bought costume and everyone was disappointed. She won the costume contest for the gypsy, though.
Werewolves for the ladies
I’m looking to go as a werewolf this year, but everywhere I turn the zentai costumes are always aimed at men! I don’t want the full mask, but am thinking latex prosthetics. I know people have talked about the different werewolf masks available and I do have some ideas, I just wanted to pick all your brains about feminizing this costume so it’s not so “I was out chopping wood in my black zentai suit when I got bit “, but sexier “I want to tear you up” kind of way.
Try the Scream Team Prosthetic “Lycanthus” I would also suggest getting the large ears from their site also. In my humble opinion, all I would need to see as a male (to know you were a female werewolf) on top of the prosthetic, would be form fitting jeans, the lumberjack shirt, long frizzed out hair, long fingernails, and some sort of crepe hair (National Fiber technologies would be the best-they will send you free samples that work perfect for the hands and chest) on your hands and chest (tastefully done, of course)! I also drape a plastic chain (wall-mart or garden ridge Pottery) across my shoulders. Check out my pictures under “Wolfenhowie_ at Hauntedgalleries.com to see the elycanthus prosthetic I used (and will use again this year) last year.
I got lucky the other day looking on Ebay and found a Creature Reached Witch for sale, with a Buy-it-Now. I have personally never seen one, but have always heard it was a very sought after piece, so I bought it. The item comes in and I am extremely happy with it except for the fact that the bill of the witch’s hat goes flat. When that happens, the face and eyes fall down and it starts to get hard to see and doesn’t look right. I started to look inside and noticed all of these little latex flaps inside the mask that look as if they have come unglued. When I line these flaps back up to where they are support to be, the hat is perfect. I am figuring that this happens a lot with the weight of the mask.
So here is my question. Has anybody ever had to do this before and what exactly did you use to glue or adhere the latex flaps back to where they belong? I went out and looked at a couple of different items today, but most said avoid skin contact. Not good, considering most of these flaps are by my forehead. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to try and wear it at least once this year, otherwise it will be a prop in the house.
