VHS - Mania

Hello everyone,

It looks like im back again :)

I bet you all didnt expect me to post 3 days in a row LOL! Well to be honest, it almost didnt happen because when i got home from work this morning, i pretty much fell asleep right then, and i ended up waking up around 2 this afternoon (it's almost 4pm now) and i started some laundry. I was just sitting here, so i started pulling out more of my vhs anime tapes to watch and the 3 tapes i pulled out today were -

Wings of Honneamise
Ninja Resurection
Battle Arena Toshinden

Ive had these 3 tapes for quite a number of years, and ironically i found all 3 of them under strange luck induced circumstances lol. I found Wings of Honneamise at a Pawn Shop for 3$, Ninja Ressurection at Blockbuster Video for 4$ and i got Battle Arena Toshinden at Movie Gallery for 2$.

Strange luck indeed, but i must say that all 3 videos are worth a bit more than i paid for them, thats for sure - so ive decided to post up pics of my vhs tapes for each movie, along with the Youtube videos so you guys can check them out right here and see if you like them :) Well onto the videos :)

Wings of Honneamise

I was REALLY lucky to find this movie, and when i bought it i still didnt know it's history or how important of a film it was to Gainax at the time. It wasnt until a couple years later that i came across a large "Hitory of Gainax" article in one of my NEWTYPE USA magazines, where it discussed how important it was for Wings of Honneamise to financially do well because it could have possibly meant life or death for Gainax as we know it. As for the movie itself, i really enjoyed it when i first watched it. Its a long movie (2 hours and 5 minutes) but it is put together quite well and all the different scenes of action, love, disdain, embarrassment all seem to come at the right time. Most people would probably say this film is boring because it isnt littered with action, but it has a little bit of everything for the casual anime fan. I found this movie to be beautiful because by the time the film is over - a slacker is able to find purpose in his life, and you cant get any more fulfilling than that. I highly reccomend watching this movie, even if you never get the chance to own it! one of the best and one of my favorites :)

Battle Arena Toshinden

I just finished watching this movie, and i must say that it was actually better than i remembered when i first watched it lol. I actually remember playing the videogames that this anime is based on and they were pretty fun too :) This actual movie would probably be called your average "fighting game anime movie" but i have to say that it does have some pretty cool characters, and the animation itself it done nicely too. Though i know that most anime fils like these are usually labeld as "Street Fighter wannabes", this movie can stand on its own, just like Fatal Fury and many others. The only thing id say that put me off about this movie is that the characters always yell out their attack names lol. Other than that it was quite enjoyable and certainly worth checking out :) I couldnt find the actual movie on youtube, but i did find a video where 2 guys review the movie, so im sure they could give you alot more useful info than me lol :)

Ninja Ressurection

Wow, Ninja Resurection. When i found this movie, i was under the impression that it was a sequel to Ninja Scroll, but it is not. I would find out years later that the Jubei character in this film was actually based on a real warrior in actual history. From reading online in various places, im led to beleive that the creators puposely animated this jubei to look very similar to the Jubei in Ninja Scroll with the intent that the casual fan would mistake them as the same character and this film as a sequel or prequel. Sadly, another downside to this anime movie/OVA is that it was never finished. At the end of my tape it just says "To be continued", but to be totally fair - besides those problems, this anime actually holds some promise. The action is done really well, and the story is actually good too. there are parts that are pretty bizarre i'll admit, but alot of anime titles contain that stuff. The animation quality is just as good as Ninja Scroll (maybe better) but people will always have a bad taste in their mouth about it being incomplete and the simple fact that it isnt related to ninja Scroll. All things aside - I enjoyed this anime for the action, and the characters were cool too. sure there are alot better ninja related anime, but this one is certainly worth a watch, even if it is just once. Im sure you will all be able to see the potential of what this anime "Could have been".

Well, i guess that will be all for today, i sure hope you all enjoy the post and i hope to have some more stuff up for you tommorrow :)

stay strong,

Yamcha

The Accursed Island part II

Hello Everyone :)

It looks like im posting a bit early today lol. Earlier this morning i was browsing some other worlds and i came across Ryosuke's world : http://www.theotaku.com/worlds/ryoforever and in a his post he posted about his first anime experience (Record of Lodoss War) and it inspired me to post some pics of the Lodoss War Related stuff that i have :)

He also stated the the anime releasing company known as Central Park Media had gone the way of the dinosaur , which somewhat saddened me because i have quite a few anime titles on vhs and dvd that were released through them, and im proud to say that they were awesome -

Battle Arena ToshindenRoujin Z
Patlabor volume 1
Record of lodoss War volumes 1, 2, and 3

are some vhs titles that i have that were released through them. I also have the Record of lodoss War: chronicles of the Heroic knight dvd box set, which i have posted about on here before. ill have to dig through my collection ultimately find all of the anime i have from CPM , but those are some ones i can list right off the top of my head. so without further adieu, here are some pics of some of my favorite anime in my collection, all released by Central Park Media and all on VHS - (ive always been a fan of vhs anime, i guess im old school lol)

I may watch one of these tapes in a little bit since its been a while since i have seen any of these lol. Its always fun to watch VHS though because i guess you have to be patient and when you rewind/fast forward, it takes time. Plus id say that it makes me feel nostalgic at times, since vhs is pretty much obsolete and it takes me back to the days when the only way i could get anime was to record it from tv. I use to love sitting there recording anime, making sure the commercials were cut out. It really made me appreciate the stuff i recorded because i went to such great lengths to make it the best i possibly could and i really wanted my collection to grow lol.

Well i guess thats enough of my nostalgic moment lol, it was fun to post all this stuff though, so hopefully you all enjoy it as much as i enjoyed scanning it and uploading it ^^ If you all haven any questions about anything, feel free to ask anytimeand ill be glad to help any way i can :)

stay strong and thanks for visiting :)
