For series that they don't have available in the US completely, but I've already started the series, and are DANG ADDICTING, I'll find the scans to.

I've really on read scans for one-shots on onemanga.com and more recently, Gakuen Alice scans, because it's ADDICTING.

    Otherwise, I just prefer to read it at the store. Feel better to be holding it in my hands. XD;;

I mainly do read scans not for mangas but for comics. I am unable to get them and they want there art seen as much as they want you to buy it so they can keep doing what they love(artists). Now I am on the read when you can, and support when you can idea when it comes to scanlations of any type. You got to support it if you want more of it.

The only scanlations I've ever downloaded were .hack mangas, most of which have little hope of ever making it stateside. Plus, like Kimmeh, I need my Shino fix.

Also, like timechaser, I don't really like reading things on a computer screen. Too hard on my eyes. I've always just preferred to buy things, which doesn't tend to be the overall opinion of the anime/manga community.

i read scanslations, but 90% of the time its of manga that will probably never be picked up to be published in the west. the two exceptions to this rule are a pair of manga series i downloaded 3 years ago, Midori No Hibi and Pretty Face, both of which have been released by VIZ (i think). i have since gone on to purchase Midori no Hibi, but i have yet to buy Pretty Face.

to be honest though, i think i prefer the scanslated versions!

The two things I read online but really shouldn't are One Piece and Eyeshield 21. I'll buy the English translations legally, but I need to know what's going on. One thing I cannot stand is being behind in those two manga. I mean, I own quite a bit of manga, but I will admit I've archived all of One Piece scanlated, whether they're high-quality or not.

Other than that, most of what I read is not out in English versions yet. I want someone to snap up the rights to both Embalming and Vinland Saga sometime soon before we would be too horrificly behind. Come on, One Piece is bad enough at trying to catch up. Tch.

The only manga series I consistently read online is Yotsuba&! However, I also buy that series (preordering on several occassions) because I love it so much. And because they make excellent vacation reads.

Scanalations are like fansubs, yet people tend to view as the lesser of the two evils. Whereas you're merely screwing the mangaka and the publisher of money with a scan, you're screwing an entire studio, TV network, and creator with a fansub. =D

The only manga I can actually admit to reading on the internet is Bleach. And that's because I'm so damn impatient. I wanted Grimmjow, NAOW. D:

Lol. Otherwise no. I buy my manga.

I read Bleach and Naruto online. Only cause they're so far ahead of the anime. I didn't used to.

I read very little in the way of those type of scans. Mainly because unless I really like a series, I don't bother to read the Manga. So when I do, I purchase it.

I don't read scans. I find it too hard to read something like that on a screen, and I've done comparisons between scans and official translations, and the scans really don't hold up in my opinion.

To tell the truth, I don't actually own any manga at all. Everything I've ever read (which is quite a bit actually) has been stuff I've downloaded.

    I guess I feel bad, but I don't know. I just don't think about it I guess.

But really, it doesn't matter that you may think that something should/shouldn't be on the internet. It is, and will be, no matter how some people may feel.

I'd rather see in shades of gray.

Yes. I read scanlations and I usually don't buy the titles when they come out in English.....

However! I don't read that many (not like that makes it any better....) and I do buy some! Like I bought the last 8 volumes of Fruits Basket in Japanese (in Japan!!! Yay!) and I own all of them that have come out in English as well as am planning to buy the rest in English when they come out. Um....that sentence was WRONG but, whatever.

Point is, I use them and sometimes feel guilty but it's not like they're going to go away anytime soon. Hm. My grammar sucks.

I do read them but I try to buy the official ones when they come out. I'm not really sure about if I think that they should or shouldn't be put on the internet for people to read for free...
