Considering how many DVDs I own, I would classify myself as a "hardcore fan", but I'm certainly not someone who enjoys anime chock full of over-done stereotypes. I'm rather picky and selective about what constitutes a good anime to me. Therefore I reject the assumption of the writer.
Umm...how can anime be dead in the first place? Probably sick, but definitely not dead. With so many new anime releases and upcoming shows next year, it's far from being dead. Just because its popularity has waned over the years doesn't mean it's dead; that even makes me wonder why the basis for judging the mortality of anime is its popularity. It's like pro-wrestling; sure the glory days of the late '90s WWF Attitude Era and the Monday Night Wars are gone, but it's still very much present with a younger group of superstars, not to mention up-and-coming promotions.
Also, just because it's not that popular anymore in the USA (as the writer and a lot of other American fans are saying), that doesn't it's dead. The fandom still continues to live in other parts of the world.
On other stuff, this article reminded me to be very careful on what I write for our student publication. Also, I'm wondering what the response would've been if this article had a Comments section below it.

o_O Well I can't really comment since I don't know enough, but I saw an awful lot of assumptions in that article.

I'm just glad they didn't accuse Gurren Lagann of tentacle rape again.
