I think this is really Shatner singing the song. According to Wikipedia, this was released in 1968, which probably explains why he sounds younger in this song.
This cover is nice. Heck, I even heard this first before hearing the original. But it's more of a Lennon-McCartney composition than a Lennon composition. (Thanks, Wikipedia.)

Wow. That was also fun. I especially like the video mixing clips from Yellow Submarine and the Star Trek cartoon, which leads me to ask, "There's a Star Trek cartoon?!"
