There's one problem with this theory that everyone must have had a crush on some anime character... and that is, when I was at that age, anime wasn't really around in the US! It was Star Trek, Battle Star Galactica [the real deal not the current soap opera disaster], Star Wars and Dr. Who! So yeah, any and all crushes that I had were on REAL people not cartoons. :p
I would have to say Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho. I mean, I know he hates humans and all, but he is so awesome! And then in second would be Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura. Yeah he's a kid, but it's ok because he's not real.
Ok we can lie and say no all we like but in one time or another every otaku falls in the same category the Anime Crush we all had one and some people to this day still have one.
What about those of us who always knew the characters weren't real?

About the only thing I ever had that would come close to an "anime crush" was Sailor Mercury. Meybe it was because she was short, quiet and bookish. Maybe because she had blue hair ^^

Call it a lie if you wish, but as one who did not grow up on anime and only started watching it in the last few years... I have no anime crush. Period. I have characters that I really like, but that's not the same thing at all. :p

I'm gonna have to go with Link from the Legend of Zelda. I don't know if he qualifies as an "anime love", but I remember the 1st time i played his 1st game on the Nintendo and he just captured my heart. I was only 8 at the time but i still fell in love. And he's gotten soo hot over the years. Especially in the "Ocarina of Time" Manga.
To this day, if I met the real-life equivalent of Kakashi, I'd ruthlessly pursue him, not take 'no' for an answer, attain him as my precious, and then be contented. That's all I ask to be happy. Why can't I get that? *exasperated*
