    Great... I hope you get everything all straightened out. I had to change my debit card one year because a motel kept charging me for times I wasn't there... But then again, that motel made a huge mistake... they pissed off a science fiction convention!

    Good luck!!!

    Man, that sucks! I hope things work out for you. At least you got your papers in order, right?

    Let's hope it's something easy like a purchase from Switzerland, or someplace you have never been to before...

    Or maybe I should get my own credit card to shop for beads with ^_^; I've avoided getting one for myself since the temptation to go ballistic might be higher than I can imagine o.o;

    Growl at stupid people taking monies that aren't theirs -.-***

    Good luck getting that straightened out. At least they were wary of the purchases and contacted you. So at least they'll be able to put a stop to it.

    I lost my checkbook once too, so I had to have the rest of the check left in it voided and new ones sent to me. ._.

    The good thing is the bank was smart enough to realize something was fishy and they contacted you about it. It's way more scary when banks aren't smart enough to do that. The fact that they caught it is fairly reassuring.

    But still, I hope the mystery is solved soon. D: I lost my wallet a few years ago, and unfortunately my social security card had been in it at the time (you can imagine how paranoid I was about THAT) along with all my cards. When I went to report my SS card stolen and get a new one, I was basically told that nothing could be done to safeguard my number until AFTER identity theft had occurred.

    And that, my friend, is how efficiently our government is run.

    @Ryu:

    Well, since I had done another PC recovery operation in the recent past I had to reinstall Avast!, which I only did tonight after the card stuff came to my attention. I'm actually not pleased that the scan came up clean, because that still leaves the "how" as an open question. ._.

    Avast! is a well known anti-virus program/trojan detector, so it's no suprise that a hacker would target it to break. Just like any other protection program, it does well against malicious software that targets other parts of your computer, but it's done for when the antivirus program itself is targeted.
    Good to know that your credit and money are both safe. Some people really get it bad sometimes, so you might've gotten lucky there(not that getting identity theft is considered lucky, but you know what I mean.)

    Can they track where the purchases were made from? Online or in a store?
