Basque Gran is actually a pretty decent dude in this one, according to the flashbacks, so he wasn't going to partake in much rat-bastardry either way.
And the original series did change the order of a lot of things, like the Shou Tucker incident. They also added the first Barry the Chopper incident completely, so the only Barry you'll be seeing is the armor one. Personally, I overall prefer the manga version, so I'll recommend you stick with it until the story starts to diverge noticeably. I think the first sign is going to be a character named Lin.
One thing that did bother me a bit about this episode was that they skipped over the Mining Town and barely mentioned Yoki. It's weird because he becomes important later.
I dont know how much long I'll be willing to watch this new version. It's just too different to what I'm used to and I can't stop being critical of it. ^^;
Basque Gran is only in the FMA manga in flashbacks. They only mention the fact that Scar blows his brains out, so the fact that they even showed him here is a surprise.

Ah yeah, I forgot to mention that bit about the mining town. I was like "Not only are things condensed but now they're skipping over them entirely!"
I'm used to the nasty version of Gran.

You're right about chimera-Tucker. It's not in the manga at all. Now I really want to see more of this new version of FMA.
Beans are evil. Bad, bad beans.

Yeah, episode 11 and 12 of Gurren Lagann are pretty much my favorites. Just so much epic. :3

I guess my thinking was colored by Asch being on the side of the bad guys (at first), so I thought he was the replica.
