I liked the first appearance of a Dalek, but I'll admit that in most of their appearances they could have been replaced with another villain and it would have been effective. Except maybe with the WWII Daleks, I enjoyed that episode too--though I concede that it could have been better.
I never really saw the Doctor as god-like, but now that you've said it I can definitely see aspects of that, as well as the breaking down of it.
The Daleks will be back. Just because they don't remember him, doesn't mean they won't be pulling shenanigans that the Doctor needs to stop.
Honestly, though, I don't really care for most of the Dalek stories in Nu Who. It often feels, to me, like they're just using them because they're popular, rather than out of having a really good story to tell. So maybe it's good if they give them a rest for a while.
I'm also really glad to see the writers apparently tearing down the godlike depiction of the Doctor that has prevailed for most of the new series.
