The saddest part is the description of those inmates who wished for last rites and religious counsel before death. I'm an atheist, but even I can understand the despair and fear those inmates must feel knowing death is close and spiritual guidance isn't.

I totally agree.
After all, religious freedom is in the Constitution, isn't it?
