    The joys of paying for transportation upkeep. I haven't had the pain yet with my car (which was bought used this summer) but I'm sure I will in due time. Anyway... Enjoy being broke for the next couple of months if not longer?

    Brings back memories of how I had to take my car in to get fixed a couple times a year, practically. How many times can a replaced alternator fail?

    I'd save the money and buy a car that's got a high rating on hardly ever needing to be serviced.

    @Desbreko:

    As much as I can barely afford the repairs for this car right now, I imagine I would definitely not be able to afford a new (used) car right now.

    Main reason I have this car is because it's a hand-me-down from my brother when he bought a truck. So I mean, aside from this big explosion of pains now, on the whole it's still in good condition and I know where it's been. In that sense, paying a couple thousand on repairs maybe balances out paying nothing to get the car in the first place.

    Also . . . kinda love that car. Won't lie. I'd be sad to see it go.

    Screw the fog lights. I had a Subaru Outback for 10 years, and the one time I replaced the fog lights (after they were holed) they were both holed again in like 6 months. Screw that man. They need to seriously upgrade the shielding on the lamps if you want you to pay $1-200 per assembly.

    Thanks,

    It sounds like you might as well just look for a new (used) car that's in better shape.

    Dayum.

    Well, if you're having a serious car problem, then it's probably best to get it fixed. Better to spend a couple thousand fixing your car than spending how much more buying a new one (or used, but you might come across problems with a used one anyway).
    So yeah, maybe politely asking the folks for some aid is the way to go.

    Totally sucks about the car, bro. I need to get my truck its 100K mile service soon. I think Im at about 96k miles. Yeah, not looking forward to that. On the plus side, Im about 9 months from paying the loan on it off, so that'll be $350 a month saved right there. Then I can get the little things fixed, like the front grill when I hit a deer(Funny story, Ill have to tell that sometime).

    Good luck with all of that, dude.
