Usually if the computer starts having issues like that, its either a virus your scanner isn't picking up, or its time to reinstall Windows cause you have waaaay to much useless baggage running in the background. But that's the newer one right? So it might be a virus. Do you use the Microsoft Security essentials? Cause its actually pretty good, and its free. I've had it pick up junk that AVG has missed.

If you haven't already, turn off Aero. That will free up a crapton of RAM and graphics processing. Also check for programs that start up automatically and/or run in the background. Process Explorer is handy for that. Defragment your hard drive if it needs it. Make sure your pagefile (virtual memory) is a decent size and set both the initial and max sizes to the same thing; you'll probably want at least 4 GB. Stop downloading so much porn.
