Whoa, scary stuff! O.o It might've seemed obvious in hindsight but when you're smack-dab in the middle of the situation it really is mind numbingly easy to slip up *nod nod*
Glad he didn't get away with all the merchandise, that would've been quite troublesome. O__O I'm taking mental notes so I know what a fake credit card could look like, that way I don't end up in that situation at my job either.
Sleep does amazing things. I'm sure after a good nap, you'll be laughing at the thought of that guy and his phony card. I would. :P
Like everyone said before, it happens. So don't think too hard about this, you've learned your lesson, next time you'll be extra sharp on catching those fake credit cards.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. If working management in a grocery store for a year of my life has taught me anything, it's that this sort of thing was never really super-awful. I dealt with so many stolen or fake credit cards, it became depressing. There's really nothing we could do to the employees besides tell them to be careful; they were doing their job. Especially around this time of year, everyone crams into the store, buying whatever, you just don't bother to check sometimes. I know I didn't! You just want them outta there. That's what management wants, too. Trust me, you've got nothing to worry about.
Besides, I've done even worse things than this. I remember back at my old job, when I had just been promoted to front end management assistant. It was my first day in a shirt and tie, and everyone was all "ooh" and "aah". So what do I do? I nearly sell a 32-pack of Miller Light to a guy with a fake ID in front of my manager, the man who just told me he admired my attention to detail, and a freakin' police officer standing behind the guy! I rang up the beer, took his cash and was about to give his ID back when I noticed the font on the ID was wrong and the flag of the state of Texas was pink, white and blue. My eyes felt like they were bulging from their sockets! That cop was giving me a death glare, my manager was pissed, and "fake ID" guy managed to slip away. I had his fake ID and the beer, but that was all I had. I thought I was canned for sure! Don't you know, the next day nobody even mentioned it. The crisis was averted, although not in the most artful of ways, so nobody cared.
In short, you're a killer anyway, SG my dude. You'll bounce back, bust a few heads, and laugh about it. Now get out there and give 'em Hell!

Haha, yeah, work can make the best of us look foolish sometimes. It seems like I mess something up every day, but as long as I learn from the mistake and don't screw it up twice, then everything's gravy.

Well, it turned out well enough in the end and the guy didn't get away with anything, so that's good. Don't be too hard on yourself.

You'll probably feel better after sleeping on it. At least from now on, you'll definitely be able to spot those fake cards. :)

As long as you learn from it, no worries. Especially since he got caught before he could get his hands on the PS3.
