Nah, the effects are pretty simple -- they are played as realistically as possible. Basically all the murders are a shot and lights out for the victim. Very direct, and very eerie.

Also, I don't mean to imply Badlands is not violent, because it definitely is -- it is just far less bloody than if the movie had been made today.
Well, Badlands is not really a horror movie, nor is it particularly bloody, if that helps (although there is some blood, if memory serves).

Yep! Already seen Hard Boiled before, but that was a crappy VHS copy, so I picked up the DVD version when I saw it at the library. Crazy action ftw.
