When I watched Paprika again some months ago, I liked it better the second time. When I first watched it, I thought it was weird for the sake of weird. When I watched it again, I found it had more going for it, and I could enjoy it as something else; it's a fairly straightforward story, actually.

Funnily enough, I've read The Cat Returns manga but I've never seen the movie. I'm not sure which came first (according to MAL, both came out in 2002; the manga isn't specific about which month either). But since I liked the manga well enough, I'll have to see the movie one of these days!
(Also, yay for Millennium Actress~ Are you just on some kind of Satoshi Kon binge lately or what?)
The Cat Returns is fantastic. I think it's one of two Ghibli films not directed by Miyazaki that have been dubbed, so that explains the different feel it has and the more comedic focus.
Carey Elwes needs to play more sophisticated talking cats and fewer embarrassing cameos in Ashton Kutcher movies.

I totally agree about Paprika--I didn't know what to make of it the first time I watched it, but you can't deny it's a quality movie.
