Well, he doesn't do too much flirting in the movie -- it's way more prominent in the second season, and in the Haruhi-chan shorts. (Haruhi even encourages it in those shorts, even though it is basically canon that she has the hots for Kyon, haha.) I don't really care about Itsuki x Kyon either way (I'm a die-hard Kyon x Yuki shipper, haha), but the flirting amuses me because it horrifies Kyon so very much.
And, yeah, from what I remember, Kyon is more sarcastic in the books -- that's probably why I'll be buying the Disappearance novel along with the movie. xD

Yeah, a lot of the fandom gives him crap for it, but it's one of the things that makes Kyon's character. If you took it away from him, it wouldn't be the same.

I haven't seen the rest of S2, namely because Endless Eight made me want to kick kittens through electric fans, but I may so I'm able to watch the movie and see this flirting. Because the shameless yaoi fangirl in me will beat me in the brain until I do. lol

The good/necessary episodes are, by the way, "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody", the first and last episodes of "Endless Eight" and one of the Sighs episodes, although that's the worst book in the series.

Speaking of this, as long as we have TheO fanfiction we need to have TheO alternate universe fanfiction where damn near everyone is weird as frick.
And in this alternate universe I'd probably end up being a devoted slave to fanfiction. Lord knows I wouldn't read the alternate fanfiction anyway.

So technically even counting the terrible episodes you get the whole experience watching six or seven at most anyway.
