Chapter 3: The First Day Is Always the Hardest
“Your room must be on the first floor, I don’t see your name anywhere.” Dai opened up his door to his room and clapped a few times. “Everything of mine is here! This is going to be a good year I just know it.” He looked over at me and smiled widely.
“Yeah, I sure hope so.” I smiled softly back.
“You look exhausted, you should rest. We have a big day tomorrow. If you need anything, I’m sure any of us would help you, even Blake. But you should just come to me ok?” He said. I chuckled.
“And why is that?” I asked.
“Because I was the first one you met and I’m awesome and dependable that’s why.” He put his hands on his hips and proudly held his head high.
“I’ll be sure to keep that in mind, thanks Dai. Have a good night.” I nodded and left his room. Passing Lances room, I slowed down and knocked lightly.
“Enter.” I opened the door to see him on a beautiful four-poster bed with crimson red covers, reading his book.
“Hi. Um, I just wanted to say thank you.” I said quietly. He looked up at me and laid his book on his chest.
“What for?” He asked. His silky voice was rather enchanting.
“Well, for being so kind about everything I guess.” I answered.
“Oh, in that case, you are most certainly welcome.” A small smile appeared on his lips.
“Have a good night Lance.” I said as I turned to leave.
“Same to you Clary.” He responded as I closed the door behind me. Heading downstairs I came across Blake on the living room couch.
“Getting chummy with those two were you?” He said without looking at me.
“I was thanking them, just like I’m doing to you.” I said. He looked over at me and blinked.
“Huh?”
“You did catch me earlier. And you could have been much meaner. It’s been a long day.” I smiled a little. I was sure he was nice, it just took a little bit of prying to see it.
“That was nothing. Didn’t even faze me. So whatever. Go to bed already, your eyes are getting puffy. Your room is down that hall.” He pointed to the other side of the room. “You have a bathroom all to yourself, lucky.” He sighed and spoke softly. “I’ll try to behave.”
“Thanks Blake, good night.” I left him to whatever it was that Nekos do and found my room. The walls were violet color, and my bed was a queen, and soft as a cloud. Everything was already set up. I quickly took a hot shower to rtry to relax and then changed into my nightgown and turned off my light. But I text Angel first.
Hey, I have news. He responded instantly.
How was move in day? In a dorm?
No. An apartment with 3 guys. It’s a long story, but this school, its different than all the others. The people here are special. I don’t understand why I’m here.
You are special. I always knew that. You’ll have to figure it out for yourself. But 3 guys? I don’t think I like that much.
Don’t worry, no one will hurt me. I don’t think so anyway.
Still, the thought of you being the only girl there…lock your door at night ok?
lol alright Angel. I really have to get some sleep, classes start tomorrow and I’m exhausted.
No problem. Have fun tomorrow squirt! I’ll talk to you soon. Sweet dreams.
Night Angel, thank you and you too.
I put my phone on the stand next to the bed and fell into a comforting, deep sleep.

“Clary, hey. Wakey wakey eggs and bakey…hey, you gotta get up now and get ready…” I felt someone shaking me lightly and I drowsily opened my eyes. Dai was so close to my face I could feel his breath and I immediately pushed him away.
“Dai!” I yelped and pulled the covers up around me more. Lance appeared quickly and when he saw me he quickly looked at Dai and glared.
“I told you to knock idiot! It is unbelievable how ignorant you can be. This is highly disrespectful. I apologize for his rudeness Clary, please take your time and get ready. We have an hour and a half until classes begin.” Lance dragged Dai out of my room by his ear.
“Ow ow ow ow I’m sorry Lance I didn’t mean it…” My door shut and I sighed.
“I already want to go back to bed.” I mumbled and slipped out of bed. I gathered my clothes and was about to pull my night gown off when I noticed a cat laying on my bed staring at me. I blinked, wondering why there was a cat in the room when it suddenly occurred to me that this was no ordinary cat.
“Blake! Get out! I’m going to be changing and you were just going to sit there and watch?!” I yelled. The cat stretched and yawned lazily and hopped off my bed and in a sudden puff of smoke I heard Blake's voice.
“What’s the big deal? It’s not like you have a gorgeous body…” He snickered and I heard my door open and shut before the smoke cleared. I grumbled and got dressed quickly and walked out into the living room where Dai and Blake were already going at it while lance was sipping some blood out of a Champagne glass.
“What have I gotten myself into?” I groaned.
~*~
“Ok. Now, where to go?” I glanced at my schedule that was in my hands. Conveniently everyone’s classes were printed out for them and hung on the front door. Everyone had gone their separate ways and I was left alone again which was both a relief and intimidating. I wished that at least one of them would have stayed with me or that Angel was here. Suddenly, I felt someone shove me from behind and I stumbled forward. I whipped around to see who had pushed me.
“Excuse me!” I said. A girl turned and looked down at me. She looked to be about 5’ 7’’, and had flawless skin and bleach blonde hair. She looked absolutely beautiful and could have been a model.
“Yes, you should excuse yourself stupid human.” She sneered. Two other girls near her crossed their arms and snickered at me.
“Would your name happen to be Madison?” I asked.
“Why yes, I must be well known even by those of low status.” She smiled.
“You’re the one I’ve heard smells so awful.” I said with a sweet smile of my own. Madison’s face grew dark.
“What did you say to me?” She asked.
“Oh it was nothing really, I’m Clary, I’m sure you didn’t mean to push me out of the way and I’m certain your sorry in which case I forgive you. Have a wonderful first day.” I turned on my heel and walked off.
“Talk to me that way again and you’ll be sorry, mark my words filthy human! You don’t talk to me like that and get away with it.” I ignored her threat and went to class. I ended up in a classroom by myself. I was the only one who wasn’t sure of what I could do. I discovered that I wasn’t telekinetic, or a mind reader. That was all I did for my first day. I went back to the apartment alone and discovered I was back before everyone else. I opened my computer to see if Angel was on and he was, so I skyped him immediately. He answered quickly.
“Hi Clary, how was your first day?” He asked. My eyes got hot and I covered my face. “Oh no don’t cry, it’ll be alright, I’m sorry…”
“No, I’m sorry. It’s just been a long day and I’m no closer to knowing why I’m even here. I got into it with the snob of the school and I’m just really alone.” I said, controlling my tears. I hated crying, especially in front of Angel.
“You had a hard day, it’s ok. It’ll come to you the reasons why all this is happening. You’re tough, things will be alright. I’ll bet that snob was just jealous of you.” He said. I smiled a little.
“Me? What’s there to be jealous of?” I chuckled.
“There’s lots. Believe me.” He grinned and I nodded.
“Alright. When I find out why I’m so special, I’ll be sure to let you know.”
“Sounds good, and Clary, I don’t want to give you any more bad news, but there is no internet at my aunt and uncles house, so we probably won’t be able to skype for a while. I’m really sorry. But we can text and we will talk all the time and maybe I can visit sometime.”
“That’s ok, as long as I can talk to my best friend, I’ll be alright.” I smiled, feeling much better than I did before.
