I used to play Volleyball in school and it's a really fast game so the only way the action can really be effective on screen in an anime is by slowing it down. I'm also glad that it draws more realistically from it's sport, it's easy to make something look exaggerated to the point of being absurd but Haikyu I would see in a real school sports club

What really blew me away was the animation. I'm not even that familiar with the sport, but the animation was done so well that I could see the moves they were going to pull... and associated painfully with their fails. XD
