Rurouni Kenshin really does give a good introduction to the history of Japan. Heck, I even used the show before as a reference when I was discussing about nationalism in Japan for history class.
As for #1, I don't think I can argue with that. Doraemon really does represent Japan, and it serves as its best ambassador in their Cool Japan campaign.
