Hi I'm Dranzerstorm
You may remember me as a regular contestant on the caption battle contest.
Welcome to Retro Retrospective, my world dedicated to the old guard of the Otaku world; expect some reviews of the old & obscure, and in-depth geeky knowledge with the occasional top ten and I now have a logo.

Little info about me
Well I'm British and I'm in to all things animated and nostalgia.
I've grown up with every cartoon going and have watched hundreds of anime.
Oh and to answer a question I was asked once, no I don't wear glasses in real life, I would wear Loke's sunglasses though.

Dream Dimension Hunter Fandora Review

I've not ignored my schedule, I'm just busy, here's a review.

In the realms of space, mankind has the technology to jump dimensions, to stop those who abuse it are Fandora and her sidekick Que, a shapeshifter who can also become a dragon when exposed to the jewel of Lupia, the source of Fandora's own power embedded into her helmet to fight those she hunts. Fandora wanting more money comes face to face with Yogu Sogos who also possesses a jewel matching hers. Drawn into a destiny she isn't ready for, can Fandora save the dimensions?
The setting reeks of Star Wars but not in a bad way, a bit of space opera works here, I also like that Que is capable of being a good sidekick, just wish I can be nice about Fandora.
She's okay at first but a few words from sexist ass hole PK is enough to make her wilt like a flower when she needed to be strong and independent, a massive fall from grace from a character who beheaded one of the criminals she caught right at the start of the OVA.
Not to mention the story sucks, the lore is convoluted and the animation is choppy and inconsistent in quality.
There is a dub but it's lost media with the only known footage being a scene from episode 1, although from what I saw, laughably bad is an appropriate phrase.
Final Verdict: a promising anime let down by lead character Fandora's inability to keep in character.

Top 10 Anime Masterpiece Adaptions I'd Like to See

So an interesting idea came into my head for this one, popular Masterpiece stories are known all over the world but they aren't as well used in anime as you might think, sure the themes are there but the actual stories themselves haven't been given the full anime treatment.
I will not include Japanese folk tales or Journey to the West as those tales are already well represented, also three other Masterpieces, Romeo and Juliet, Count of Monte Cristo and Swan Lake, already have good anime adaptions.
So let's begin.

10. The Little Mermaid as an Idol Show
You can argue that Mermaid Melody already did this but that was more in line with more traditional magical girl shows with idol theme. I can definitely see one of the major idol animes of the current era adapting the Little Mermaid plot to have the lead mermaid gain legs to sing on land.

9. Anastasia as a Coming of Age Drama
Even before the legend gained traction in the 90s with the popular animated feature, stories of young girls discovering their birth right were common place in 80s Shojo anime. Anastasia has the right setting to join those ranks.

8. Alice in Wonderland as a Studio Ghibli Film
Surprised that the Lewis Carroll tale isn't as well adapted as others despite having an aesthetic that would suit anime. Clamp took their version in an interesting direction with Miyuki Chan but where I think it would shine is through Studio Ghibli, the visuals alone would be breathtaking.

7. Nutcracker as a Mecha Series
One element often forgotten in the Nutcracker is the title character's war with the Mouse King, so a Gundam Style Mecha series with a unique heroine caught in the middle does endear itself to that genre.

6. Jack and the Beanstalk as a Shonen
The 70s Jack and the Beanstalk was well remembered as a surreal experience, but I want to see them sell a real fight between Jack and the giants almost on the same wavelength as Attack on Titan.

5. Pinocchio as a Horror Anime
The Japanese are experts at making some disturbing horror anime, so some of the more horrifying moments in Pinocchio can really set a high bar.

4. Snow White as a Reverse Harem
You can argue that Pretear already is this but it shares elements of Cinderella and is primarily a Magical Girl show.
It's not really that difficult to make this a reality and enough digging you'll probably find an adaptation or two.

3. Cinderella as a Magical Girl Show
Cinderella has been adapted as a Coming of Age Drama but where the magic lies is in the Magical Girl genre, Cinderella has enough motifs and enough elements to showcase an anime like Cutey Honey or Sailor Moon.

2. Beauty and the Beast as an Isekai
That time I got sent to another world to meet a beast who holds me captive but I stick around because he's socially awkward and needs love.
The script writes itself.

1. Wizard of Oz as a High Fantasy
Seems like a weird thing to suggest as Wizard of Oz is already quite high on the fantasy list and the type of adaption I'm looking for is already available from the Koreans.

That being said, I just want an adaptation where Dorothy becomes a witch to fight the other witches. I'd watch that in a heartbeat.

Kandagawa Jet Girls Review

The website appears to be working on Chrome again, let's hope it stays that way, now for some Jet Racing.

Based on a PlayStation Racing Game, Kandagawa Jet Girls is all about the competitive world of Jet Ski Racing, the sport consisting of a jet skier and a shooter that fires a water gun make it more than your typical wave race.
The story centers around Rin and Misa as they live up to the legacy left by their mother and older sister respectively, as they go through the trials of trying to bond as a duo.
It's also the same type of anime as Keijo, no male characters, just wholesome sexy female bonding through sport, although it probably needed a bit more sport as opposed to the situations the cast find themselves in at times.
The cast are pretty strong with other duos consisting of the rich bitch and her food obsessed maid, the social media obsessed gyaru girls, the small idols who act like vtubers, the Otaku obsessed Americans with the exaggerated Engrish and finally the split personality girl and her spiritually calm girlfriend.
The balance is mostly there but spends probably too much time establishing the bonds of the leads with Misa being the one that holds back the plot for the whole 12 episode run.
For the most part it's fairly decent with a good finish.
The dub on the other hand is really terrible don't watch it.
No idea what the game is like.
Final Verdict: A decent anime with a well balanced cast, just wish there was a bit more sport in this sports anime.

Top 25 Worst Male Anime Characters

From females to males, it took a while to narrow down but were finally ready to go.
Update: Shinji Ikari is forgiven. I'll tell you why later. Replaced by Cilan from Pokemon.

25. Cilan from Pokemon
His character makes no sense, you cannot use wine terminology to describe Pokemon nor make a career out of it. It's so monumentally stupid.

24. Minoru Mineta from My Hero Academia
I'm just going to say it straight, he looks like a walking toilet, remind me why this show is the talk of the anime world again?

23. Admiral Nelson Royale from One Piece
*shudders* God he's so unpleasant to look at, One Piece I normally praise for art, not here.

22. Zeno from Dragonball Super
Only Toriyama can make the most powerful being in the universe an annoying spoilt child.

21. Minato Sahashi from Sekirei
A harem protagonist who really needs a reality check on the situation, he just annoys me.

20. Sosuke Aizen from Bleach
He is someone who is likely still trolling long after being dead and buried, just no.

19. Chang Wufei from Gundam Wing
Pretty much the 90s equivalent of an edgy 90s twitter misogynist.

18. Happosai from Ranma 1/2
I never found his perverted shenanigans to be enjoyable, could've easily not been in Ranma and no one would miss him.

17. Oberon the Fairy King from Sword Art Online
Imprisoned thousands against their will and tried to force Asuna to be his Queen. Another one who got a satisfying beatdown, but it's because of this guy Kirito has been excused from this list.

16. Shinji Matou from Fate Series
Weak pathetic individual who thinks it's acceptable to abuse women. Got a very satisfying punishment.

15. Sakura Kusakabe from Clubbed to Death Dokuro-Chan
Made an eternal youth potion for women, all well and good except it keeps them at 12 years old, now it's creepy.

14. Saito Hiraga from Familiar of Zero
He's dumb enough to fall for Louise even after all the abuse he's taken from her, it showcases how utterly stupid harem protagonists can be.

13. Wolfram Von Bielefeld from Kyo Kara Maoh
He's the male equal to Louise from Familiar of Zero who is already a worst female character.

12. Shou Tucker from Full Metal Alchemist
A little too easy to put this one down, yes he's the worst human alive but he was written as such and served that purpose, nothing about him was written poorly. But yeah he's still deplorable for doing it

11. Garou from One Punch Man
I hate him. A needlessly complex villain that has already been defeated by Saitama, any build up to him being a proper villain has lost it's weight.

10. Negi Springfield from UQHolder
After what I found out, he's now on this list I'll spare his Negima persona but not his UQHolder one, his decisions ultimately undo everything he accomplished in Negima

9. Mokuba Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh
His role in the franchise was to be scrappy doo and to give Kaiba motivation he didn't really need. He can't even play a children's card game.

8. Seiji Noumi from Accel World
A bully who's sole purpose is to be obnoxious to the point of being punchable, yet he's not even threatening, anyone a foot taller could easily smash his face in.

7. Kamille Bidan from Gundam Zeta
All he had to do was not lose his temper and we could've had Char as a lead character, no were stuck with Mr Self Righteous emo kid who deserves all the slaps from Bright Noa and pretty much the rest of the cast.

6. Pain from Naruto
Thinking about, I can forgive Sasuke, yeah he's a piece of emo Shonen trash but Pain then brought it up to ten. Oh boy, Pain is a lost cause and one of Naruto's lowest points; I really don't miss the Edgelord trend and it was the tip of the iceberg not only having a character named Pain, have his motif as Pain but be painful to listen to. As for Sasuke consider yourself lucky that you grew up in Boruto.

5. Makoto Itou from School Days
The whole point of Makoto was to not let dating sims be reality because all you do is play with people's hearts and trample them when it doesn't satisfy you and Makoto was the perfect person to portray that but it did more damage to the harem genre than his contemporaries ever did.

4. Ramunes IV from Knights of Ramunes OVA
An ego maniac who abuses women on a regular basis, what's worst is that he's meant to be a hero, not to mention there's no explanation in why he became such a deplorable human being to begin with.

3. Chris Thorndyke from Sonic X
When we finally have a proper Sonic anime and you come along and ruined it by just existing, comes to something when every other cartoon and even the ova is better than what this series produced.

2. Alois Trancy from Black Butler
This ass hole ruined Black Butler, nothing more than a fanfiction writers miserable attempt at Ciel Phantomhive. He's an abusive, emotional black mailing little piss stain that didn't deserve to exist.

1. Koran Mori from Flame of Recca
Let's list all his terrible traits.
Kills people for giggles no matter what side.
Boring greedy corrupt business man.
Most hideous anime design in history.
He has no impact on the story until the end and even then the real final boss is arguably the one in control.
More than likely a rapist.
In an anime reliant on action he can't do squat.
Worst of all, he's the least interesting character from the series and is so forgettable that you'd forget he exists and he's meant to be the main villain, so he's not only the worst male character but easily the worst villain in anime.

Gundam Wing Review

Just been given a new perspective on this anime.

The year is After Colony 195 and the colonies of outer space send a number of Gundams to Earth to stop the United Earth Sphere Alliance after it forcibly took over a number of colonies. These five Gundams and their pilots become intertwined in a war that looks set to test their moral gray areas.
So it's standard Gundam practice but Gundam Wing holds the unique position of being the first Gundam for many and that's not a good thing. To view the classic Gundams after this is met with disappointment as it's no where near as good on the war narrative as they are but perhaps the boy band leads can shed a different approach.
Heero Yuy: Pretty much does what he's told but his path is skewed by his encounters with Relena who in turn discovers that she has more to do with this than she thought.
Duo Maxwell: At least he's cheerful and somewhat resourceful given that he involves himself with resourceful people including Hilde.
Trowa Barton: Doesn't really have a personality to begin with but then some how gets even less of a personality halfway through which Catherine protects with her waifu support.
Quatre Rabareba Winner: An emotional wet blanket who can't stop being angsty despite the fact that he's the only one backed up by his own army, this leads him to a confrontation with impressive eyebrows Dorothy which tests his beliefs against someone who loves war.
Chang Wufei: A misogynist with this weird back and forth code of being a warrior which leads to him being the actual rival of enemy Trieze. But his misogyny starts fading with his meetings with Sally.
Even the enemies have the same setup.
Zechs Marquise: Torn between his loyalty to Oz and his family's beliefs as he constantly finds himself on the wrong side although Noin is freely offering herself to him in support.
Trieze Krushranada: Definitely a magnificent bastard with a unique code of ethics, explains why he was so eager to fight honourable duels during conflicts. Lady Une acting as a devoted follower with two distinct personalities each wanting to be noticed by Senpai.
The point of this is that each male has problems and has a woman to confide in with Relena and Lady Une standing out as being more than waifus.
But what about the stuff you come to see, mecha battles, action and story?
The story spends the early part of the series using alot of stock footage, never really gets to the big parts until half way through the series, even when it does get to big moments it can easily be spoiled by angsty melodrama and finally the dub acting is dreadful; watch the subtitled only, it cuts alot of the issues it suffers from.
You may think I dislike it but that's not true, on it's own, it's a solid anime but having seen other Gundam series including series that both predate and follow Gundam Wing, it's hard not to see the flaws.
Final Verdict: it's not terrible nor is it mildly bad, it's actually decent but compared to other entries in the Gundam franchise it's only major selling point is that you have a pretty boys with problems boy band you can use for your terrible yaoi fanfics. And avoid the dub like the plague, it does the series no justice.
