Hi I'm Dranzerstorm
You may remember me as a regular contestant on the caption battle contest.
Welcome to Retro Retrospective, my world dedicated to the old guard of the Otaku world; expect some reviews of the old & obscure, and in-depth geeky knowledge with the occasional top ten and I now have a logo.

Little info about me
Well I'm British and I'm in to all things animated and nostalgia.
I've grown up with every cartoon going and have watched hundreds of anime.
Oh and to answer a question I was asked once, no I don't wear glasses in real life, I would wear Loke's sunglasses though.

Battle Skipper Review

Continuing where I left off yesterday we come to Battle Skipper.

At St Ignacio school for girls there are only two clubs worth joining and they are the Debutante Club and the Etiquette Club.
The Debutante Club president Sayaka has grand ambitions of seeing women takeover the world and needs the mecha AI the Battle Skipper robots use, while the Etiquette club have possession of the Battle Skippers and use them to stop crime as the Exstars, so basically a personal fight between clubs run by two heirs to the same family, well one sided as Reika is way more disciplined.
Well this isn't actually that bad, the setup surprisingly works and they avoid cheap fanservice, sadly I can't say the same about the motivations of the villain.
Her motives are admirable but make her out as a hypocrite, her financial and political weight is backed by her father, she makes her man servant do all her dirty work while not lifting a finger and she calls herself and her club Debutantes yet in it's default definition, it is a rich girl's coming of age ceremony by being presented to high society as an eligible maiden for marriage, emphasized by a white ball gown resembling a wedding dress.
So her entire ambition is left in shattered pieces and getting such an AI along with mechs just makes her out as a dictator ready to awaken.
This ultimately makes the Etiquette Club look so much better morally if not by it's members openly preferring the Etiquette Club but by it's effort to make women strong in all aspects, rather than "I have money and contacts"
The dub is poor, which makes the already 2D characters look even flatter which doesn't help.
Final Verdict: It's cheesy enough to work but a poor villain really brings this series down, the man servant proved more confident and would've made a better main villain. I also didn't really find the other characters that memorable bar the man servant and the Kansai speaking AI.

Arcade Gamer Fubuki Review

I seem to find a lot of dollar store anime around, so let's do another one.

Fubuki is a gamer and with the mighty power of her panties, she has the power to beat any game. But the evils of the Gulasic Group want to eradicate all technology, can Fubuki with support from her friends, the mysterious Mr Mystery and her power panties save the day?
You know if I had any kind of approval rating it would be dead right now.
Saying that, this anime has some noticeable credits, the character designer of Sgt Frog, sponsorship from Sega and is a spiritual sequel to famous 80s manga Game Center Arashi, yet I cannot really watch this with a shred of dignity, a teenage girl has ultimate game powers from her panties, Japan, why?
Dub is fine, the premise while ridiculous does have a heartfelt message and didn't end up being as predictable as I first thought but still, you cannot unsee this.
You know if Segata Sanshiro was the final boss I'd be speaking a different review right now. Shame on you Sega for missing an open goal.
Final Verdict: It at least passes the test for a crappy anime night but you'll lose alot of dignity watching this.

10 Reasons Why Hugtto Precure is the Best Precure Season

The latest Precure was not only an anniversary year but out did every other Precure that proceeded it and here are some reasons why. Be aware of spoilers.

1. Hugtan is the least annoying toddler in fiction.
Any character under four is annoying by default but Hugtan manages to be less annoying than even older child characters.

2. All the Precures in one place.
While not uncommon in Allstars the sequence of all the Precures fighting, showcases Precures uniqueness of letting their characters throw punches as opposed to stand there and shoot beams and all 55 were there to lay the smackdown.

3. Precure Works on Multiverse Theory
In most cases Precures grow up at the end so the way all of them can turn up is through Multiverse theory.

4. All the Villains are Redeemable
The motivations of the villains never really came from a bad place, so their appearance in fighting the last bosses with Precure was nice to see, even George's motivation is entirely justified which leads nicely to the next point.

5. Most Mature Precure
The motivations of George and Dr Traum both come from the tragedy of losing a loved one, in this case Hana and Ruru. Despite all the colourful, happiness the franchise is known for, it's refreshing that they can touch a subject that even some adults can't cope with.

6. Ruru changed the Precure Rules
Ruru is the first non organic character to become a Precure but that's not the only character to change the rules.

7. Boy's can be Princesses to
A quote uttered by Hana as she tries to save Henri became a social media praise all across Japan which would later create Cure Infini the first official male Precure.

8. Adults can still Dream
It's easy to overlook Precure as a kids anime but yet another quote from Hana of "Adults can still dream", actually made me start giving a damn about my life again despite all that happened in 2018.

9. Everyone is Precure
It is silly but why not? Up until now the oldest cure was 17, so this scene alone gives me some hope of an all adult precure team.

10. The Final Message to the First Fans
It was obvious that Hana is Hugtan's mother fully realized in the final scene where Hana actually gives birth on screen, but it delivered it's most beautiful message to the first Precure fans. Precure as a series is 15 years old so the fans of the first Precure are now the parents of the children watching the current Precure. And what better way to say thank you for making this franchise the success that it is was to have a lead Precure become the mother to another Precure.

Ultimate Teacher Review

I've been told this anime is unreviewable.
Challenge accepted.

Emperor High School is the worst school in Japan, a place no teacher would survive, not even criminals.
Hoping to bring order is Ganpachi who paints an intimidating figure as he swiftly puts Hinako, the gang leader, in her place after revealing her love of Lucky Kitty Gym Pants.
It's revealed that Ganpachi is a genetic experiment spliced between a human and a cockroach and he escaped from the very lab that created him so the second half is just one big goofy battle.
This is one of the rare occasions where the British also have a dub as well as America, the British one is sillier but the American dub paints Ganpachi better.
I don't believe it's as unreviewable as people think as Ultimate Teacher's comedy really relies on what your taste in comedy is, in this instance it's screwball comedy with a hint of random as stereotypes are dotted about the film which have no business being there in the first place.
It has a good first half but the second half, the best jokes have already been used up so it finishes weak.
Final Verdict: For an 80s era anime Ultimate Teacher is a rare treat to show on any anime night but it's comedy has a short lifespan so I'm grateful it's only 55 minutes long.

Dragonball Super Movies Review

I've had a pretty lucky run so far and at no point do things get luckier than managing to see the new Broly movie before it even comes out in this country, but why stop there lets add the others as well.

Battle of Gods
Taking things in a different direction to GT, this movie begins with Beerus, a Destruction God intrigued by a dream he had of fighting a legendary Saiyan warrior. His caretaker Whis informs him that there are still Saiyans left despite their apparent exitinction at the hands of Frieza.
This takes him to Earth where he crashes Bulma's birthday party, but with only Vegeta even recognizing who Beerus is, he swallows his pride and tries to get the others to act as sensibly as possible with mixed results although Beerus does enjoy the food he quickly stops being friendly when he argues with Majin Buu. Goku shows up having already been beaten by Beerus on King Kai's planet to have another shot by obtaining a new form but despite his best efforts he still fails to beat Beerus but he takes pity on the planet because Earth has the best food.

Resurrection F
After many decades members of Frieza's army manage to wish the tyrant back to life with mixed results again which hilariously starts out in pieces as he's not been put back together following his death at Trunks hands.
After being repaired Frieza realizes if he stands any chance against Goku he has to actually train which works as he comes back in Golden form and fights both Goku and Vegeta sporting their own new forms which results in Frieza losing again. The difference is he destroys Earth which forces Goku to admit his own faults but Whis gives him a second chance which allows Goku to finish the job.

Broly
The first part shows an alternate version of the final days of the saiyan race painting Bardock in a much more sympathetic tone as he personally sends Goku to Earth. As for Broly, fearing his power maybe too much even for the Saiyans, Broly is exiled with Paragus searching for him.
After many decades Broly is found by Cheelai and Lemo hoping to win some money from Frieza's army. Frieza hoping to take advantage of finding two Saiyans to use against Goku and Vegeta jumps at the chance of recruiting them. What follows is the longest uninterrupted fight in Dragonball history as in this order fighting Broly is Vegeta, Goku, Frieza, Whis and then Gogeta.

All three follow the same formula, one big battle but unlike the Yu-Gi-Oh films which pretty much do the same thing there's a point to them.
They all serve as extended trailers to the Super Anime with Broly being the greenlight for season 2 and if the ending is to be believed we haven't seen the last of Broly.
Dub is always top notch and despite Broly's origins, the Super does portray Broly as more sympathetic which is miles better than Z's, because Goku wouldn't shut up reason.
Final Verdicts
Beerus film, welcomes fun new characters badly needed in the franchise and the overall presentation is impressive but still painted with Toriyama's terrible brand of Comedy.
Gold Freiza film, I feel is a let down considering were dealing with one of the franchises most notorious villains.
Broly film, holy hell is it impressive to watch and the changes to the backstory really improve the story as a whole and I welcome this Broly over that other Broly.
