Monthly Update: Oct. 2025

I also used this month to rewatch the InuYasha anime. I wanted to watch an anime series that was at least somewhat appropriate for the current Halloween season. Granted, InuYasha would have to be classified more as a fantasy/romance, but it does contain horror elements (the original manga more than the anime). The thing is I don't really have many true horror titles in my anime collection. I have Parasyte: The Maxim and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (up through Stardust Crusaders). I also DVDs of an old series called Vampire Princess Miyu, but I haven't watched them in years because mainly because the discs for it were never in the best shape. A few years ago they did rerelease the Vampire Princess Miyu anime series on blu-ray, but I didn't get it because at the time I didn't have my own blu-ray player. Now I have a blu-ray player and the blu-ray release of Vampire Princess Miyu seems to be out of print.

Anyway, it turned out InuYasha was an appropriate choice for this month after all, as Rumiko Takahashi recently had her fiftieth anniversary as a manga artist. The Anime News Network did quite a few articles relating to the event, including this article related to InuYasha that I found quite interesting.

An Ode to Kikyo: In Defense of one of Takahashi's Most Hated Characters

I had no idea there was so much hatred towards the Kikyo character. Of course where InuYasha is concerned, I came to the party rather late. My cable provider didn't get the Cartoon Network until around the time Michal Jackson died, so I only saw InuYasha as late night reruns. Still, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Kikyo would have such a rabid legion of haters, as a lot of those online InuYasha fans seem to be pretty nuts. I found that out the hard way when I attempted posting chapters of an aborted Yashahime fanfic, but that's a story I'll save for another time.

The only other thing I have left to report regarding this month is that my grandma is going to have heart surgery this coming Tuesday. They have to replace one of her heart valves, which is also what they did to my dad back in May. So that's two family members having major heart surgery in the same year. What're the odds? They even have the same surgeon who did my dad's operation doing my grandma's, though that's a good thing because the man obviously knows what the hell he's doing.

I think that pretty much covers it for this month's post. I'd like to thank everyone who read all the way to the end. Until we meet again next month.
