Monthly Update: Oct. 2025

Ladies and gentlemen, Journey.

Hello again everyone. I'm back with yet another monthly post about what's been going on in my life. There's been a lot going this month, so much that I'm currently feeling a little burned out. Some of what's happened this month so far has been good, and some of it not so good, like my car going into the shop to get some dents removed; the bodyshop said the job would only take three days and it wound up taking about a week. Anyway, expect this post to be a long one, but I'll only be covering the major highlights of the month.

First though, I feel like I should explain my reasons for choosing the music video I did for the beginning of this post. The song in question was one Journey did for the soundtrack for the original TRON movie. It's a sadly lesser known song because in the movie it was buried under arcade noises and character dialogue. And no, I did not choose a song from TRON from because the movie, TRON: Ares came out earlier this month. I did plan to go see that movie when I saw an early trailer for it, but then I did a total about-face when I found out they had cast Jared Leto as the main character.

That guy sucks! Jared Leto is the worst thing to happen to superhero movies since the movie, Batman & Robin! I did read a little more about TRON: Ares online, and it seems the movie wound up being a total box office bomb. And it's a real shame, because I really like the first two TRON movies; they're not great art but they're fun (and Jeff Bridges is always awesome). I don't know who was on the production team for TRON: Ares, but they should all be ashamed of themselves for producing such a giant steaming turd of a sequel that'll likely ruin the franchise for years to come!

Sorry for the mini rant there just now. The reason I chose "Only Solutions" as the song to open this post is because I have some big video game news to report (TRON is video game related). I got the Nintendo Switch 2! It arrived via FedEx last Thursday. Getting the unit set up wasn't too difficult, though there were a few hiccups. I ended up not being able to transfer over a lot of the screenshots I had taken on my old Switch Lite because I apparently didn't have a space micro SD card compatible with the Switch 2, but that wasn't a huge loss because it's not like I go back and look at those on a regular basis.

I did buy a new micro SD card for my Switch 2, though it did cost me another hundred and six bucks, and even after I installed it I wasn't able to transfer those remaining screenshots. Anyway, transferring all of my old games over took most of the night. I did also ended up having to repurchase Pokémon Sword because I couldn't transfer over the physical game card (only the DLC). I think Nintendo should just stop making physical game cards at this point. Anyway, my original save file for Pokémon Sword was still somehow intact once I had downloaded the digital version of the game.

One thing that surprised me when I went through the process of setting up my Switch 2 is that it didn't already have Pokémon Legends Z-A already loaded onto it, as I had ordered a Switch 2 that was supposed to be bundled with that game. It turned out I had to download Legends Z-A, but it was a free download. As for Legends Z-A, I've more or less beaten the entire game at this point. All that's left for me is to finish the game's Pokédex and complete a few side missions. I even took part in the current season for the online ranked battles against other players and made it all the way to Rank A, and I accomplished this feat in a single day.

As for my opinion of Legends Z-A, I think it's the best Pokémon game out there right now. Sure, the game has its flaws, but it's nowhere nearly as bad as a lot of the haters out there would make you believe it is. The battle system that Legends Z-A uses is revolutionary for a Pokémon game, and the Mega Evolution gimmick works beautifully with it. One area where Legends Z-A tops Legends Arceus is the boss fights. I always thought that the boss fights in Legends Arceus were just a tad too difficult, but in Legends Z-A they got the difficulty level just right.
