Plus, no frogs or snakes Dx I keep hearing them (the frogs) everywhere and keep panicking at the sight of each snake looking twig I see ever since my roommate told me about her encounter with one here.

*Random* just checked the tuition at CSULA. It's half of UCSB's and has twice as many degree programs. I will seriously transfer out if my situation becomes dire here.

Yes, housing is expensive, and considering the quality of the environment you're forced to live in, it's over-priced. They're basically charging for convenience.

Housing is pretty expensive 0___o Especially at a bunch of the schools I'm applying to.

Same here. We're not off too great, but we're right at the point where we're too "rich" to be considered "poor" but the same applies the other way. If we could afford school, we wouldn't be more or less begging the state to help pay. What annoys me even more is that when I go as the Fin Aid office what my options are they basically tell me that if I can't afford the school I shouldn't be there, they don't even let me start the loan process.

That's understandable :) I wouldn't either. Which tempts me even more to just switch to the cheaper CalState schools. I'm pretty sure I'd cut costs a lot, especially since I wouldn't need housing. The degree is worth more or less the same. If anything my UCSB one would be undervalued because of its party reputation -.-

Yeah, actually my family's financial situation is weird and we have savings so I don't think we would even get need-based aid...but I don't want my parents spending their life savings on some fancy school haha.

I really hope you get one! I don't want anyone else to deal with financial aid problems like me. If you avoid having to deal with the state or government for aid, you'll be fine. I'm tempted to apply elsewhere *has no school pride/loyalty* where they'll actually give me, at the very least, the merit portion of my aid.

Oh, lucky. Yeah some of the schools I'm applying to are pretty competitive...but I won't go unless I get a merit scholarship LOL

Really? D: that's horrible. They must be very competitive. It only took a 3 to get an exemption from taking the English placement test at my school.

Some of my schools only take a 5 on the AP Lang (I got a 4) and some schools don't even let you get out of classes because of the AP exams...

If you do well on your AP's you'll be fine. If I had managed a 4 on AP Lit, I wouldn't be in this class :( but the Language one saved me from the Writing 1 and 2 classes.

Yeah, but oh well. At least both grades were decent. That gives me a bit more room for error on the final exam or paper. I need to study for my other classes too, and frankly, I care more about my history and Italian than this. If I pass it I won't need another English course.

xD yeah. My history final doesn't seem too bad. If I keep reviewing my Italian I can mangage...it's English, both the final and the weird essay, I'm worried about. As long as I manage a passing grade for I'll be happy.
