"Well, we should go figure out where we're going. This place is so huge. I've walked into other peoples rooms by accident when I try to find mine." Kat said, turning her face to one side and giving somewhat of an over-exaggerated face. I resisted the urge to laugh as I recognized the fact that many of my students gave me when I talked about running or training in general. "I think there's a map on a wall somewhere near here..." Kat said before turning and stepping out of the room. My eyes followed, and I found she was trying to observe someone. Stepping farther out and walking towards something, I found that Kat had found something that had peeked her interest. I moved to follow. It turns out that she was looking at a map on the wall and trying to decipher it.
"So we go down these stairs... turn here, go down here... And the door is there?" Kat said pointing at the map and giving the almost comical look again. I guess it was some sort of form of embarrassment or something along those lines, but once again, I suppressed the urge to laugh. Suddenly, Kat seemed to puff up with a determination as if to prove to herself that she could do something. What exactly remained elusive from me.
I looked over her shoulder and studied the map for a minute before realizing that it had a relatively basic and easy floor plan and that there should be some key points to note throughout the area. Kat seemed to turn back to me and started talking once more.
"We can go when you’re ready," she said aloud. I blinked for a moment wondering if she was really waiting for me to say something more on it. "There's no real rush, but if you plan on trusting my sense of direction, I would get started and we might get there before it ends!" She laughed to herself lightly, and I gave a calm smile back.
“I have a relatively good sense of direction, and the mansion from what I have seen follows a basic format,” I answered back. “Do not worry.”
Kat almost turned her head in a form of confusion at my comment but then just laughed more. I gave a shrug and then looked down the hall again. The day seemed to be passing quickly for one reason or another. The comical thought that the Lunatone and Solrock were having their fun with the day came to mind, and I couldn’t help but laugh again.
“What’s so funny?” Kat asked.
“Life in general,” I answered. “It’s full of contradictions and twists and pathways.”
“Mhm….” Kat answered as she seemed to turn her attention back to the map.
“How about this,” I answered. “I’ll change clothes again, and then we’ll walk down to the ball room together. Is that suitable?”
Kat turned back and quickly nodded more to herself than to me. I turned a half step and headed back to the room. Kat made a motion to follow but then seemed to stop herself quickly. I looked off to the side for a moment at her.
“Yes?” I asked wondering if she was about to ask for something or along those lines.
“Oh uh…” Kat answered, and once again the somewhat comical face came about on her visage. She rubbed the back of her head with one hand somewhat nervously. I gave a general nod and then turned again. “I’ll wait outside the door,” Kat concluded as I entered the room again.
I retrieved the suit and started to change clothes. It was somewhat odd to forfeit my karate jacket to a suit jacket, but then I reminded myself that it was just for one night, and I could possibly get more information later. I turned as I took my shirt off and found Kat standing with the door half closed peering through it. I blinked but then she suddenly seemed to disappear, and I disregarded the notion as I took up the pair of suit pants. After changing completely, I walked to the door and opened it again to find Kat waiting a few feet outside as she had said she would do.
Turning her head as if she had been looking off somewhere down the hall, Kat looked over at me in a mild head turning fashion. However, just as it seemed she caught sight of me, Kat put her hands together, and a quick smile had appeared on her face.
“That’s perfect!” she said quickly putting her hands together in front of her obviously pleased to some degree. I turned back into the room and stared at a mirror along the back wall. Everything seemed to fit well enough I concluded as I turned back again.
“Shall we head downstairs then?” I asked giving a small smile.
“Yep,” Kat said and then suddenly seemed to change her mind. “I mean… sure.”
“Alright then,” I answered.
Suddenly Kat’s eyes dropped, and she seemed to jump at whatever was on the floor.
“Wha!” she started looking back up at me, and our eyes missing each others as I looked down confused at exactly what she was gawking at.
“What?” I asked looking back up Kat seemed to give a strange mix of confusion and agitation on her face.
“Where are your shoes!” she said almost in the scolding manner one would give a child. I blinked mildly confused.
“What do you mean?” I asked wondering why shoes mattered in this. I had gone barefoot for so long anyways. It helped to train and get to know the ground better as well as help one kick. However, judging from the way of Kat’s face, this was obviously unacceptable. “I am a hitmonlee… we kick with barefeet… and….” I said unsure of what exactly I was going to say next.
“But it’s a Ball!” Kat answered back. “At least put some sort of shoes on.”
“I…” I answered knowing that I didn’t really own any sort of shoe for that matter. Kat all but seemed to directly infer this and then put her hands on her hips in a thinking sort of manner.
“We’ll have to go into town really quick,” she said turning and then starting to walk rather quickly down the hallway. I was stunned for a moment by the entire situation but then calmly started to follow.
I must say I find it humorous that Kat said she had a bad sense of direction, and yet she somehow instinctively knew where the front door was as we walked out of the mansion. I must also say that Kat can move quite fast when in a hurry for she was already almost through the forest as I exited the house. Quickening my pace, I caught up to her, but she made no form to slow down. Instead, my presence seemed to make her move faster, and within minutes, we were in a town. Suddenly I realized that this was the town that I had headed towards as I had passed the mansion a few days ago. A part of me wanted to stop and ask around if anyone had seen a couple of boys and a girl, and yet I knew that if I stopped, I would lose sight of Kat as she more or less ran down the street.
A few sharp turns later, both Kat and I were standing outside of a Poke Shoe place. Taking the door before Kat stepped to claim it, I opened it for her. Seeming to take this over well enough, Kat smiled and then headed inside. There were a few people racing through the store buying high heeled shoes and the sorts. As I walked in, my eyes moved around the room and found it somewhat cluttered in nature. However, just as I was looking around the room, a store clerk seemed to run up and asked what we needed. Kat chatted quickly before making a motion about shoes for a dance. I somewhat disregarder this measure and started walking around the store.
Picking out a pair of sandals, I slid them on and found they were comfortable enough and would be easy to slide off if I needed the measure. As I showed them to Kat, however, she seemed to give me a mixture of looks all at once before somewhat sighing to herself in defeat.
“Alright,” Kat answered resuming her almost press on time. “Let’s head back quickly and get to the Ball.”
I half-way smiled at this and answered ‘alright.’ With that, we both walked out of the shoe store, and Kat resumed her all but running through the streets and back to the mansion. I found it somewhat of a humorous contradiction that just previously, Kat had said something to the effect of that there was plenty of time. This proved there was never enough time.
What if they were hurt somewhere…. The notion suddenly ran through me like an electric attack. Again my thoughts had brought up Chan, Top, and Rogue. Shaking my head and trying to clear my thoughts as best I could, I continued with Kat back to the mansion. By then it was somewhat later afternoon and actually starting to grow dark. Kat and I headed back into the house and found that it was starting to get a little less tense as people calmed down and started heading to the Ballroom. It was obvious then that it was about to start. I felt eyes on the side of my head and turned to find Kat staring at me. I met her glance.
“Shall we go?” I said smiling in as much of a cheery manner as I could afford.
Kat’s eyes widened and she nodded quickly.
“Let’s go,” she smiled.
