"I guess this is your new home, then," Melody's longtime friend gaped at the towering mansion that had materialized from the ashes.
This is not my home, Andreas. It would be inconsiderate to intrude on these gijinkas' sanctum without properly requesting permission for lodging. I barely know anything about these people. Why should I barge in and take residence with people whose names are the only thing I know about them? Melody's thoughts whirled about in her head as she gazed uncertainly at the gleaming manor. She could see other Pokemon milling about through her peripheral vision as she pondered over whether she should go inside or not. I suppose it would not hurt if I took a quick tour of the place, she finally decided. "Let us see what this place has to show us," she told Andreas, starting off. The sound of feet falling into step behind her was his answer.
As the pair walked through the doors, they were instantly awed by the sheer size of the place. The ceiling was about twenty feet above their heads, dotted with gleaming chandeliers. The enormous room branched off into two equally large corridors. By each entrance was a sign. One read "MALES" and the second read "FEMALES". That Smeargle was smart, Melody thought to herself. Dividing the estate into gender-assigned wings was a lovely idea. It should keep trouble down somewhat.
Andreas interrupted her thoughts. "I may not be welcome here," he said, "but I would like to at least like to see your friends with you."
The she-Mudkip smiled. "Yes, indeed," she replied. "And I'm sure they will accept you here, at least for a short while. Now, I wonder where Hon went off to..."
The male scientist frowned, pushing his glasses farther up the bridge of his nose. "I just don't understand why you like that boy so much. He seems so... unconventional. Being around him seems to make you more rambunctious. I like you best when you're quiet and polite. It disguises your true potential, which is advantageous," he stated. Melody couldn't help but giggle at his rambling. However, she wondered why her seeing Hon agitated Andreas. He's just a really good friend, right? she thought. What's wrong with that?
"Hello!" a familiar voice exclaimed. Eva scampered over, the human boy she called "Daniel" following close behind. "Good day, you two," Melody greeted them. "You both look awfully happy. What has happened?"
"They're letting Daniel stay at the mansion! We're going to see Estelle to get him some clothes. Have you seen her?" Eva asked.
"I'm afraid not."
"Oh, okay! I'm sure she's in her room. By the way, you should go find yourself a room, Melody! I'm sure there's one you'll find just perfect!"
Melody's smile disappeared. "Oh," she said, "I'm not going to be here. There's a lovely pond nearby, so I'll stay there. You could come visit anytime, though."
"What? Why?" the young Eevee frowned. Andreas looked at her with the same question in his eyes.
"It is nothing personal," the Mudkip replied. "I just don't really know any of you. You don't know me. I'm not sure if I could belong." The statement had a bit more venom in it than she had intended, but nevertheless, she did not correct herself.
She turned to leave.
Continue?
Melody.
