Hello everyone. Well, another Pokémon Day has come and gone, and I thought I'd share some thoughts about the biggest announcement from that day.
The biggest surprise from this announcement was that we won't be getting these games until next year, and I'm honestly fine with that. I think the people at Game Freak should take as much time as they need to make sure these two games live up to everyone's expectations. Look at what happened with Scarlet and Violet. They rushed the development of those games and put them out without making any of the necessary final tweaks to make them work the way they should, just so they could make another quick buck from that holiday season, and as a result fans will be ranting about those games' performance issues from now until the end of the Internet. We don't need that to happen a second time.
Anyway, what little we saw of these two games in the trailer looks pretty outstanding. There's a lot we still don't know, but it seems like Waves will have more of an underwater focus while Winds will have a focus on the sky. If that's the case, I'll probably end of getting Waves. Of course a lot will depend on what the mascot Legendary Pokémon for those games will be like. I had a thought earlier tonight that the mascot for Waves could be based on Cthulhu while the mascot of Winds would be based on Hastur (who's associated with wind), but I doubt that Pokémon would dive into the Cthulhu Mythos.
As for the new Starter Pokémon, they're all pretty okay. I like Pombon and Gecqua more than I like Browt. Of course my issue with Pombon is that it's based on a Pomeranian, which is not a real dog. To quote Time Allen, "It's not a dog if it can be killed by a cat." My opinion of Pombon may change though, depending on its evolution. I mean, it could evolve into a badass wolf or something. Then again, it could just end up getting more frufru.
My only other big concern about Winds and Waves is whether or not they're going to feature the Mega Evolution gimmick. If they aren't, then what was the point of bringing it back in Legends: Z-A? Sure, there's that Pokémon Champions game that's supposed to come out in the near future, but I feel like that's just something for the hardcore players who enjoy competitive battles. If they're not bringing Mega Evolutions back in the core series games, then it seems like Legends: Z-A was kind of pointless. The reason I'm making a big deal about this is because, if you believe the leaked documents that came out not long ago, we were supposed to have gotten a pair of Legends games set in the Johto Region instead of Z-A, but they're not bringing back Mega Evolutions to the core series games, then we got cheated out of some really cool Legends Johto games for nothing.
That's pretty much all I've got right now where Winds and Waves is concerned. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we get some more information. In the meantime, I've been having a blast playing Pokémon FireRed.
