Death Parade

After death, humans are either sent to the void or reincarnated. But for some, at the instant of their death, they arrive at Quindecim, a bar attended by the mysterious white-haired Decim. He challenges them to the Death Game, wherein they wager their lives and reveal their true natures. Decim himself is the ultimate arbitrator of who wins and who loses, who will go to the void, and who will be reincarnated.

I'm not gonna lie, I started this anime because I saw gifs on Tumblr and it looked pretty ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Thankfully, it was more than just pretty!

The story was interesting, the atmosphere dark and mysterious, somehow reminded me of Jigoku Shoujo. The idea of using very inoffensive games (air hockey, arcades, twister...) and turning them into devilish games for a judgement was very entertaining and smart. All in all, it's an unique anime and even though most episodes aren't related, you're still curious about what is going to happen next. That is also because through the episodes, you can see the characters evolve, especially the two main ones, but all of them also slowly show their goals or purposes. The relationship between Decim and Onna is nicely developped and nothing feels rushed. As for the animation, it's also great but, well, it's Madhouse. The sound was also very good, the + being the joyful OP, surprising considering the anime's atmosphere but I really loved it.

Now, onto the enjoyment, I really really liked it, all the characters were interesting and so were the games. I do have a regret, being that I hoped to see more of the side characters, who are the ones behind the deeper storyline. I feel like we didn't see enough of them and I still have many questions. Meanwhile, Decim and Onna's storyline is well handled, so I guess you could say that it's more the context in which they evolve that deserves more attention. So, it's getting from me a 9/10, since it's great but not perfect yet.
