Whats past is past

I was shocked when Airi asked to help me. "I guess so, are you sure though? There are lots of books here.", I said as we stopped in front of the library. "Don't go answering my question with another question!", Airi said as I cringed. "Sorry, I'm not use to people helping me. People don't tend to hang around someone who broke a persons arm.", I said as I opened the door and we walked in. "What do you mean?", Airi asked as we took a seat. "It happened in middle school. I stumbled upon a couple fighting in the halls. The guy was hitting the girl, so I attempted to stop it. He swung and hit me hard in the side of head, and I snapped his arm...but then the girl ran off to tell a teacher and I was the one who got in trouble and not the other guy.", I said as I flipped through a series of books. "That's harsh.", Airi said as she flipped through a couple of books. "Yeah...but it happens. Not as bad as why my eyes are like this though!", I laughed and then sighed. "Wow, it's been a long time since I've talked to someone about these things.", I said as I handed a book to her. "You mean those aren't contacts?", Airi asked. "Wha-no, of course not! Who thought they were contacts?", I asked. Airi shook her head. "I was in a mugging in London. Trying to protect my little sister, and my eyes got burned.", I said, and then laughed. "But that's horrible! Why are you laughing!?", Airi asked me. I looked at her and smiled. "Just remembering the guy who burned me...he caught himself on fire in the process. Ran out of the ally in his boxers screaming!", I laughed. "So what about your sister?", Airi asked and I fell silent. "I think that's enough for right now...", I said with a bit of pain and anger in my voice. I looked up at Airi, and tried to fake a smile. "Anyway, how about you?", I asked.
