I heard about this. Well even if it's on the slow side, at least the sites are still running. It's just too bad that so many people think it's amusing to be a jackass instead of finding better things to do with their time.

I've actually been learning about this kind of thing in one of my business classes. o_O A section of the course covered protecting your company from online assaults and DDoS was listed.

I'm sure you already have something you're using since we can get connected, though the site is on the slow side. Anyway, I hope it's resolved soon.

That patch is actually to protect your personal information. DDoS stands for Direct Denial of Service, which is a hacking technique where the culprit attacks the bandwidth of a website directly, attempting to overload it and cause the site to crash.

It's pretty easy to do, since you can find scripts to run for it just about anywhere. Besides that, sites as big as TheO just have too much bandwidth for attacks like this to actually do anything other than slow it down a bit and piss people off. So yeah, whoever's doing this is probably either bored and stupid or attention-seeking and stupid. Either way, they're stupid.

Looks like the Anti-anime man is trying to get on our nerves. Why does that not surprise me??

Aha, so that's why it's being so incredibly sluggish today.

The tough part is I don't know exactly where or how to find the new security patch introduced a few days earlier. I heard of it regarding microsoft, and the patch is suppose to stop hackers and other internet problems.

You'd think they would know that DDoS doesn't do much more than cause annoyance to users of websites that usually get as much traffic as theO does.

Which leads to the question: who the hell would want this site offline, anyway? The anti-fun brigade? The Media Cleansing Committee? Adolf Hitler Campbell?

I guess that explains why the site wouldn't load last night. I couldn't get to here or OtakuBoards. It is working today, but it's really slow. ^^ That's better than not working at all though. I don't know what you're doing security wise, but I'm sure you'll figure it out Adam.
