Snooki came about because we were trying to figure out what avatar-switch would offend people even more than the Edward Cullen one. It was either her or Sarah Palin (whose name also rhymes with lots of stuff).
As for chat, I probably wouldn't worry about that. I was out of there long before the bulk of this came out anyway.
