Well, international students (Forgot this if he's actually from America xD) usually choose names that are simple to say :P It's because sometimes, their natural names are hard to say (For example, my boyfriend's actual name sounds like you're trying to get something that's stuck in your throat xDDDD)
There must be something special about Asian guys having the nickname of "Brian," because a Korean guy in my Stats class went by Brian too. weird observation is weird
