No scans are acceptable for making stuff. Also, you don't have to link to everything you use, it's just a good idea. You're not the only person to find a nice image, stuff it in a folder and use it later. So that's not a problem either.
Making such changes is something(from my point of view) really good.....but are scans* a form of plagiarism?(*used for wallpapers) and I have this habit of saving images from many sources(like a pic hunt) and don't remember where i got them from, maybe even saved a LONG time before I create my work.....will the source of our images have to be mentioned? because I'm not very sure I understood ><

I agree with the last bit there. People who do nothing but cheat and abuse the system don't deserve to be recognized in that fashion.
